T42 and games

#1 Post by vk60402 » Fri Jul 21, 2006 10:40 am

I'd like to play car racing games once in a while, as well as some quake and doom games, so I can live with 64MB video card (I think).

Are there T42's with higher than 64MB video cards, yet, XGA screens? I notice tha tT42p comes with 128M video, but SXGA screen and I prefer native resoultion at 1024x768.

What are my options for these (basic) games, yet, budget of $1200?

You can buy the T42p with the 128M video, and set your resolution to 1024x768.

But I MUST say, SXGA+ is AMAZING.

The P series are not available with XGA no matter which line or model you buy.

The FireGL T2 migh actually be a bit slower than the 9600 which only has half the video memory. The 9600 scores about 11000 in 3Dmark01 while the T2 seems to be around 9500-9700 from the few i have seen.

It's not as bad as scaling down on a desktop lcd from 1280x1024 to 1024x768 - because the laptop LCD has a much smaller pixel pitch. But else: If you want 1024x768 native, what about an external LCD with VGA connection, those aren't very expensive :)
