Can USB 2 be enabled on a T30

#1 Post by sundance » Sat Jul 22, 2006 5:35 pm

I recently purchased a used T30. As it is a P4 and running WinXP I assumed it would be USB 2 but it is not. Is there any way to enable USB 2 on this laptop? What model did IBM implement USB 2.

Thanks :D

You can get a 2.0 pcmcia card, i think the t4x line is where 2.0 began.

I do not own any T30, but I have a feeling that T30 supports usb 2.0. You may need to install some drivers, like the update on the motherboard.

If you check the devices on the system, can you find any yellow question marks? If so, chances are that you need to upgrade the motherboard control software.

It's a HARDWARE item, not software driven.

There's no magic software to turn a USB1.1 port into a USB2.0 port.

First T series Thinkpad with built-in USB2.0 support was the T40.

Despite what Amazon.com says about the T30 having USB 2.0:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00092 ... e&n=541966

I would go with the information from IBM which says that T30s only come with USB 1.1:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-58227

In order to implement USB 2.0, I believe you would need to change the supporting chipset hardware. It's not something you can do with a simple driver update. I wish it were true (a software mod) because I would love to have built-in USB 2.0 in my 600X and T23 systems.

Nice to know that T30 does not support USB 2.0 (hardware). I thought it supports. I know A30 does not support 2.0.

So weired. T30 comes out the same time with Dell inspiron 8500 but Dell support 2.0.
