I have a T40. I took it apart because the USB port is physically broken, and I wanted to look at the connector so I can order a replacement to solder in. When I put the computer back together, it boots and sits at the first screen (Thinkpad / Centrino logos) for a bit longer than usual. It then gives white lettering on a black background saying the date has been lost and the computer was tampered with. I assume this is because the CMOS battery was pulled.
Then comes the problem: it prompts me for a password. What password is this? I had the system set to prompt for a password on powerup, but the password I use for that does not unlock the computer.
