ibm shipped me the wrong computer

#1 Post by liquid_sonata » Fri Aug 13, 2004 8:43 am

my t42p arrived today, and everything seemed very well. the only problem (so far) is that when i looked at the name of the computer under the monitor it says t42 instead of t42p. on all my invoices it's a t42p and i remember specifically ordering a t42p. however on my invoice as well as my computer it says 2378ezu.

also, before windows started up, it had to reformat part of the volume from fat32 to ntfs. is that normal? right now the screen is not full-sized, as i'm registering my product. there's a huge black frame around it.

if the hardware inside is the same as the t42p (that is the same video card, i'll have to check in windows), i guess i can just keep it. if not, then any idea what number i can call to get it replaced?

btw, the build quality of this thing is indeed quite fascinating. the hinges are just like those on the t42p. i have the china keyboard and i must say it seems fine. the machine is so quiet also (even with the 7200 rpm hd).

so...two questions: is there anyway to check if i have the flexview monitor in windows? and how to check i have the right video card?

thanks.

edit: i just rechecked the build your own computer feature i used on ibm's website. i chose the t42, p-m 745 (dothan?), ati mobility fire gl2. that is indeed my video card. weird! a discrepancy in my invoice then...?

I'm pretty sure you have the right laptop, they probably just don't make a separete plate on the LCD case with a p after the T42...

The transfer from FAT32 to NTFS is normal on all machines. I don't know why they always have to do that rather than just loading NTFS from the start, but they do.

In display properties, Advanced, there is an option to have the screen fill the LCD panel. I forget exactly how it's labeled though.

When you boot, go into bios and check the BIOS versions and the system info. Try to see if these match up with what's on the sticker underneath your laptop and on the IBM device drivers website.

Mine has the 'p' designation on the LCD cover.

Check your bios setting for the monitor thing not filling your screen. I also forgot what the setting was but you'll see as soon as you check your BIOS. That option is also available in the Thinkpad Configuation program. Check under LCD settings.

it's not normal if you need to 'force' it to do hardware expansion for the screen to be filled.. sounds more like the resolution are *not* the native one.... Doesn't really point in either direction and I don't know what a t42p is supposed to be running in, - but native resolution should fill the screen.

hey sorry to worry you guys. i'm pretty sure it's the same as a t42p - my video card is the firegl and sports a 1600x1200. i did wipe the hard disk clean and recover my entire hd, i couldn't resist. my only problem now is connecting to the network at home via wireless. i'm going to do some research in this forum for that.

i didn't know that flexview was so good. my eyes are hating the blurriness on my viewsonic desktop that they didn't even know was there!
