I've read several posts on this board pertinent to X23 wireless issues, and it looks like most people on this board are pretty advanced. But it also made me quite confused.
The reason is that on my laptop (and I have used a number of X-series before) wireless didn't get detected. I downloaded a driver pack from Lenovo (IBM) site, it installed itself, but still no wireless device in the system. Then I bought a PCMCIA card, which did get detected, but was never able to see a single network.
So now I'm reading a bunch of posts that some manipulations can be done, because there is or there isn't an antenna inside the laptop, something about the mini-PCI board that are removed and changed (which I always thought was a desktop-type board), some Atherix hardware, attaching an antenna to a dormant device, that wasn't fully activated for X23, pulling some wires under a board, etc etc etc.
This all made me quite confused. Is there a wireless device on X23 at all? Is it not activated during the factory assembly? Is it supposed to be activated by the end user?
What is the story with X23 and wireless anyway?
My body type is 2662. Same type for X22 (at work) works just fine. And I loaded both myself with the OS & drivers.

Some X23s have built-in wireless, some don't. Chances are if it isn't detected in the Device Manager, yours doesn't have it.

Thanks for your response. I figured out how Lenovo lists information about avail components (which wasn't that obvious), and it seems like I may not have an integrated one.
I only have a mysterious PCI device that can't get detected with anything. So I was hoping that was the 802.11.
So if buying the new adapter, what is better - mini-PCI or PCMCIA? I was trying to find a miniPCI slot today, but found only memory & battery ones. And then found the third one and ended up removing the HDD while running the OS. Luckily nothing crashed.
Is miniPCI slot hidden somewhere? Because it should be quite big, right?
What kind of experience people here had with Wireless adaptors added to their X23 series?

It is actually quite small, about 2.4"x1.8" and is located under the keyboard.drinker wrote:Is miniPCI slot hidden somewhere? Because it should be quite big, right?
See the hardware maintenance manual for instructions on how to remove the keyboard:
