A couple of T21 questions.
Hey
A couple of weeks ago i got myself a lovely
IBM Thinkpad T21 2647 A5G
(750 MHz P3-M, 256 Mb IBM PC100, 20 Gb Hitachi etc)
I configured SpeedStep to max performance everywhere, But still it runs at 600 MHz insted of 750 MHz,
BIOS and POST finds a 750 MHz P3-M but in Windows and Debian, Only 600 MHz, How can this be?
Also, is there an internet shop in Europe(Or atleast ships to Denmark) that still has some Pentium 3 Mobile CPUs in stock? Im thinking of a 800 MHz or 1 GHz CPU but can anyone confirm that my Thinkpad can use a CPU faster than 800 MHz?,
And what about HDDs? The T21 uses a Intel 440BX chipset, like my Abit BP6, but the BP6 doesnt support disks larger than 32 Gb or high density RAM, Does the T21 have the same issues? Im not so worried about RAM because of the sticky about Crucial RAM for T21-23, But i do want a faster HDD at some point.

1) observe your system under heavy load. then the cpu should operate at max. speed. check BIOS settings.
2) because you have 750 MHZ, it might be a problem to upgrade to 1 GHZ. I think your original CPU should be at leats 850 to upgrade to 1 GHZ. Check the forum for posts.
3) HDD up to 80 GB shouldn't be a problem. check also the posts.
4) max. RAM is 512 MB. There is nothing special about it, as long as you keep within the constraints as per various posts in this forum.
Tip: use the search function first.

T23, 1.13 GHz, 512 MB, 160 GB, DVD, XPH
I have heard that a BIOS update for some T2x models corrects the Windows reporting of CPU speed.
You can probably find a freeware app on the Web that will test the actual CPU speed of your system.

come on steve- its like when a student asks the teacher for an answer, instead of using the teachers information to find the answer...tfflivemb2 wrote:Mobilemeter

True; then again, people don't even pay attention to the "Search" feature on the forums either (prefering instead to Post-N-Bump most of the time), so what is to be expected?dsigma6 wrote:come on steve- its like when a student asks the teacher for an answer, instead of using the teachers information to find the answer...tfflivemb2 wrote:Mobilemeter

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

I guess some folks would rather wait for an answer, in line with the teacher thing, than find it immediately with very little time/effort.
Slightly related, I posted on another forum, and on my first post I was told "You posted in the wrong category." Doh!

That's partially because phpBB has the worst Search feature of any Bulletin Board software.christopher_wolf wrote: True; then again, people don't even pay attention to the "Search" feature on the forums either (prefering instead to Post-N-Bump most of the time), so what is to be expected?
I'm always amazed at the number of people who install this cruddy software:
- Useless Search Function
- No list of Latest Posts for the site
- No Latest Posts in the Forum List
- Terrible Graphics

Yeah, but that doesn't excuse people *not using it before posting.*kstuart wrote:That's partially because phpBB has the worst Search feature of any Bulletin Board software.christopher_wolf wrote: True; then again, people don't even pay attention to the "Search" feature on the forums either (prefering instead to Post-N-Bump most of the time), so what is to be expected?

It is there to be used and, frankly, should somebody want to find something, the search feature does just fine.
Searching is always a tedious business (ask IBM, they came up with the relational database and had to figure out algorithms to search and sort such huge databases).
It also depends on the quality and relevance of posted material if you are talking about the "false positive" rate; but, see, that is the Catch 22. Better posts are generally created by users informed by using the search function and the search function works alot better if there is a large percentage of cleary marked, on-topic, and relevant good threads.

And that being said this thread has drifted, drift drifteddrifted but with good cause. I've seen many posts about posting, and especially making sure posts are posted clearly. This could cause one to go postalBetter posts are generally created by users informed by using the search function and the search function works alot better if there is a large percentage of cleary marked, on-topic, and relevant good threads.
