T22 - can XGA LCD be used in SXGA model ??

#1 Post by kstuart » Tue Jul 25, 2006 8:21 pm

Hello,

I did do a search but couldn't quite find a definitive explanation of whether there were any physical differences in the T22 (not the T23) between the model that had SXGA orginally and the model that had XGA originally.

I have read about a cable difference, and that the XGA cable won't work the SXGA screen, but will the XGA screen work with the SXGA cable?

And, are there any other differences - such as how the panel fits into the top cover assembly, and any motherboard differences ?

Thanks for any light you can shed on this.

PS This is because I've just bought a T22 with SXGA that needs a backlight. I bought a backlight from a Forum member, but it's possible that I may botch the repair and I use reading glasses anyway and may prefer the XGA. SO, I'm wondering if I can just get a T22 XGA LCD and use that (far easier to find and cheaper than getting an SXGA LCD).

According to the Hardware Maintenance Manual, XGA panels for T22's and T23's are interchangeable part numbers. Also, according to the HMM, SXGA lcd panels are not given different part numbers by machine.

I'd infer that from the above that, if SXGA panels and XGA panels are both usable in a given T23 (with appropriate cable), the same would be true of a T22.

As I'm not a hardware expert, I'm not saying I "know anything". It just seems to be a logical conclusion.
