Newly upgrade 600E to 500MHz, some problems?

After upgrade, I found my lovely 600E running at

251MHz = 51.6 * 5 with battery
500MHz = 100 * 5 with AC adapter

Are there any way to change the speed (251MHz) for battery mode?

What thinkpad utilities can I installed to utilitize most features out of my newly upgraded machine?

I am now using WIN2000SP4 and have installed Thinkpad configuration panel only.

First off, you should check your power management settings. Have you tried setting your power management settings in Windows to "Always On"? What is it currently set at?

Next, I would try installing the IBM Power Maximizer / Power Management drivers for Win2000. Have you done that already?

I have installed Power Maximizer, but seems the only component I can install for my 600E is Power scheme....., nothing else installed.

I think what he is trying to say to you is go to control panel then to power options and there select the always on option.

I don't currently have a functional Win2000 install, so I'm not sure of the right terminology for the power functions on different screens. (Thanks for the clarifcation cmarti, yes, that's what I meant).

I think "Max Battery" means that the system will try to maximize the length of time the battery will last, and one strategy to do that is to reduce the CPU speed. You should be able to select a "Power Scheme" or "Power Option" called "Always On". This scheme normally turns off all the power-saving aspects of the laptop and it should force your CPU to run at maximum speed if it can. What happens when you switch your Power Scheme/Option to "Always On"?

On my battery-powered, 500Mhz (non-SpeedStep) 600X running Windows 2000 SP4, if the Power Scheme is set to "Always On" or "Minimal Power Management" then the Front Side Bus (FSB) speed as reported by CPU-Z is normal (i.e. 100Mhz). As soon as I select "Max Battery" scheme and apply it, the FSB drops to 50-51Mhz, in effect lowering the CPU speed to around 255Mhz. MobileMeter reports a similar, though not identical, CPU speed reduction (MM reads anywhere from 10Mhz lower to 20Mhz higher than CPU-Z). When powered with the AC adapter, the CPU is not affected by any of the different power schemes; it stays at 500Mhz even when using the "Max Battery" setting.
