600X Docking station and required software?

#1 Post by Bob Collins » Fri Aug 13, 2004 2:53 pm

Is there a required software package to use the 600X with a docking station? I know it is a NB question, but I never used the dock and want to now, and it seems like something should happen when I dock and undock it. The only thing that seems to be noticed is the power change...

Thanks for a swing of the clue bat.

If it's any use, I used a 600e on a bloody great thing about the size of Switzerland, that was called a "dock" and all it ever did was beep when I unlatched it - the first time I used it I plugged it in, turned it on, and the b**** thing worked - I mean even the UNO didn't do that !

I don't think there's any software specific to the dock as everything is essentially an extension of the busses in the laptop...

Excellent, that was what I was wondering. I hate to admit it, but I do know that a certain Dell laptop (certainly not small enough to be called a notebook) does have software that `knows' about the dock and whether or not the Dell is in or out of the dock.

I was hoping that there was nothing like that for the TP.

Don't know much about the Uno, but I know it was easier to push start my MG than it was to try to get the Lucas electronics to talk to the starter!

I seem to remember a friend telling me even Lucas sometimes couldn't figure out why their own electronics actually worked!

In the days of the Rover 100 (in about 1968) the same friend rang up the then British Leyland to talk to a technician - he was concerned that the engine had begun to consume oil - the technician replied "You should learn to drive slower than 100 mph" ! It seems (and this was in fact confirmed to me many years later) that this particular BL block didn't use any oil - until it was a little stressed - like over 100 mph...

I'd better stop or I'll get it in the neck for being on the wrong thread.

Gald the dock problem may be sorted

Thank you. I am running Win2K Pro, so I can safely ignore that.

Again, thanks
