very slow charge time t23 battery
very slow charge time t23 battery
I am getting extremely slow charge times on my IBM T23 laptop. I have bought a new battery and it's still not charging 100% after 2 days. My other battery, the original Lith-Ion IBM is not charging past 85%. Is there a program that controls the charge time from either IBM or XP? This did NOT occur in the past. When my battery alarm went off at 10%, I immediately went to AC power and the battery was fully charged in a few hours. I searched google, IBM and Windows.com, nothing on the subject.

Have you installed the Battery Mizer program? It gives the current(present, not electrical) condition of the battery (cycles, capacity, etc) as well as shows the charging current and voltage of the charger. Are you using a 72watt charger? If you have a 4000mAh (4.0Ah) or higher battery, you must use a 72w charger... 16V @ 4.5 amps. If you have one that say 16v @ 3.5a then that is a 56watt and it wont charge 4.0Ah batteries.
Do you still have the other battery? If so, try it back in and see if it charges fast again, if it doesnt, suspect either the charger, or the battery, even new, it may be bad.

New battery mizer prog is installed via direct d/l from IBM/Lenova. Charger is OEM IBM P/N 02K6750 and is NOT part of the chargers recalled. My new IBM battery is "stuck" @ 51% and I've yet to switch to my old battery. Sometimes if I reboot, the program will start recharging the battery. At this point, I am really getting frustrated with the charge time. Something is going on that is controlling charge time and I'd like to pinpoint it. I'm thinking of checking the output on the charger with my multimeter, stay turned as I do carpentry work and do not have a lot of time to devote to this. IF anyone finds a link to IBM support for this please post.
Well dudes. I found this. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4YTG43
Last entry: Charge times will vary. So IBM will never give you a straight answer on charge time and I am stuck will an extremely long battery charge time. It's now been day #2 for my newly installed Lith-Ion OEM IBM battery. Sheesh.

Battery is fully charged!
OK. The new IBM OEM battery finally went to 100% early this AM, after about a 12-14 hour charge time. I'll change to the old one and see if that will charge 100%. While this was happening both of my Makita 12V batteries for my cordless drill finally pooped out after 5 years.

Spotler, that is the WORSE thing you can do to a Lith-Ion battery, never, ever deep cycle one. That will damage the battery. I have my alarm set to 10%. You should never let a L-I battery drop below 2.5% and never, ever let it fully discharge. This would be fine with a NI-Cad, not a Lithium-Ion. Read up on Lithium-Ion batteries and charging them.
