x60s wireless networking, crossover cable file sharing

#1 Post by apd » Mon Jul 31, 2006 7:51 am

I just received my x60s and i love it. I have a few questions though about security and wireless settings, and file sharing.

First i attempted to connect both my desktop to my x60s series, was able to add eachother to the same workgroup, and even ping eachother, but i was unable to access the shared files and was given an error stating that access was denied, and to contact my administrator of the server. I turned off the windows firewall, and turned off all (what i believe was all) the security, enabled sharing of the internet connection, but still was unable to connect both computers. There must be another setting to turn off before i can connect both computers, and i was wondering if anyone has done this, and can help.

Second i added my x60s to my wireless home network, (i am able to get online so i am connected to the router fine), but still have the same error when i attempt any file sharing, or even just viewing the workgroup (i get the 'contact administrator of the server, access denied).

Any help would be appreciated.

Connect the computer to your network using a normal cable. Second go into the network sharing setup wizard and try to set it up like that.

Try making a folder shared on your desktop and see if it shows up.

did you kill symantec internet security bloatware? i've seen that symptom when that is running - my advise is to completely remove anything made by Symantec from your system

Did you turn off Simple File Sharing in Windows Explorer?

@snife - Please moderate your comments about Symantec. You may not like it - it matters not to us. But Symantec does not preclude connectivity unless (1) you fail to configure it or (2) you configure it wrongly.

I will certaintly be trying those solutions and keep you updated. After playing around with the computer last night i decided to undertake a new clean install of Windows, so it will have to wait till i finish before trying file sharing again.
