I assume you want to use wireless to connect two PC's without a wireless accesspoint? Then you have to choose Connection Type Adhoc instead of infrastructure. You should find that option where you specify a SSID when using AC.

this wouldn't require only thinkpad to thinkpad would it? couldn't work with other types?

Ad-hoc networking would work just fine; yet AC 4.12 has a dedicated P2P functionality, including a whiteboard that appears to be derived from NetMessenger, in addition to that. While the Ad-hoc should work with any system with 802.11b/g ability, I don't know if the P2P would work between laptops other than two Thinkpads or at least two systems with AC. :)

i tried making my own network but it doesnt do anything. in A/C i chose peer-to-peer but that it only when i wanna connect to another laptop.

HOW DO I CREATE MY OWN NETWORK WHERE I SEND OUT THE SIGNAL SO OTHER CAN CONNECT TO ME?

step by step if possible?

I'm not sure you can 'beacon' an ad-hock (peer-to-peer) signal. If you want to find an ad-hock signal, your best bet would be to use NetStumbler to sniff around for others.

If you cant beacon the signal and can only connect then doesnt peer-to-peer cease to exist? doesnt someone have to "beacon" the signal?
