I have an '01 Lexus IS300, sweet powerplant LOTS of room for improvement. Basic stock block can handle almost 900 hp. Anyways, you have to understand a rotary before you even try to explain why they use oil so much. First, its a rotating rotor much like a disc. The tolerances between the rotor and the block are very tight nonetheless but that still allows room there for oil to creep through into the combustion cycle. On a piston powered motor there are at least 3 rings on a pistion that separate the oiling system from sneaking into the combustion chamber. As far as Rx7's or 8's go duration will always be an issue. Because the seals on the rotor are always in constant debate about if and when they might go. These are called Apex seals as they sit at the apex of each rotor leading edge. As far as comparable vehicles and motor setups to compete with the Rx there are plenty and they are WELL under 3 liter or larger. Take for instance the Wrx Sti and the evo. A 2.5 liter Sti and 2.0 liter Evo are extremely close in performance and both of those will flat out put the hurtin on a Rx. On the same note my buddies 92 civic EK hatch is putting down 420hp plus to the wheels and that thing would also put the hurtin on an RX and its only a 1.8 liter

I am going to stick with my 1984 300ZX for awhile now. Has a great amount of power, slight amount of oversteer, and good acceleration. 
Of course, this doesn't rule out the 911 Turbo.

come on chris step out of the mold man. conformity is no fun. go with something that people wouldn't expect. everybody wants a 911 turbo growing up as a kid. what about a vishnu evo for example. fraction of the price, beats it in every category except maybe head turner. 4 doors, fraction of the insurance, drop the kids off at soccer practice and go find some middle age man in his corvette and do a lil damage to his pride!!!!! not to mention AWD for the winter; unless you plan on putting chains on that 911 its only a 2.5 season car.

Sure it is within the mold, it got there for good reason. First, though, I am getting the Porsche and *then* the Evo. There is also the 911 4S too, and they are true all-season vehicles.
And, of course, none of these can beat a healthy motorcycle in a stoplight drag race, or in tight corners, or...uhhh...most types of races (except endurance and top speed).

you gotta pick up some magazines like import tuner or something like that and check out the vishnu evo, or the buschur racing evo. Also, check out some IS300's out there. There is a forum just for the IS. I have watched a video with a 700hp IS300 tromping vettes, cobra's, you name it. IS in stock trim is 4200+ car, not exactly a lightweight in anyway shape or form. I mean do the numbers. 911 turbo is doing 0-60 in low 4's high 3's depending on who's driving. A bone stock evo VIII is doing it in 4.4 at 275 hp. It's not gonna take much to get those numbers even lower. Im just giving ya a hard time, 911 turbo is an excellent ride man go with it. I had a good friend of mine take me out in his '99 carrera. All I can say is wow. As that thing ran through the gears screaming well into 7000rpm I thought to myself how much trouble I would get into if i had that car. I can barely keep my license with an IS300, I would surely be using public transportation after a week with a 911 turbo!!!

I sold mine 2 1/2 years ago ... an autumn red (great colour!) A4 1.8T quattro with the great sport seats, 17" BBS wheels and an APR chip to take it up to about 190 hp. The original A4 design still looks good after 12 years on the market, the 1.8T is a sweet engine, and the car was still solid with nary a squeak or rattle on it.hobbes wrote:I drive a '97 Audi A4 that turns 10 years old in December. Mine's black and the V-6. And i agree that the original design is a classic. Even 10 years later I still think it looks fantastic every time I wash it. It's been very reliable for me as well, but I'm pretty fanatical about doing preventive maintenance.
My reliability was good, too, and once they sorted out the squeaking A-arms, needed few repairs. But once you get close to 10 years, there is just more maintenance involved -- timing belts, brakes etc. -- and so I decided that I should buy the 2004 which I do like, rather than waiting some more years and maybe having to settle for one I didn't like so much.hobbes wrote:Mine's black and the V-6. Here's mine. My dad bought it new when I was born (not with some crazy plan to give it to me or something, I just got to liking it and I've worked on it since I was a little kid). Right now it's mid engine swap (waiting on camshafts), going to a 5.6 liter MB engine with OS2 pistons, custom cams, port and polish everything, high flow fuel distributor and injectors, adding 2nd fuel pump, tri-y headers, custom exhaust, wheels (functional, not big pimpin), suspension, beefed up transmission. But for now a before picture.

Oh yeah, they do several makes and are the best, but they are THE benz guys. I wish I had the money for one of their cars. In that new Britney Spears vid, the three bimbos get into an SLR. How is it a complete moron like Paris can handle an SLR? ...or can't she? Time will tell I suppose. Perhaps it is detuned for American Princesses by McLaren before export.
