Actually, even supercars and touchy race cars are drivable by most people; no, most can't drive them fast, and generally just end up being able to do average within the range of 60-70mph. Don't have to be a professional racer to turn on and drive an SLR, but you would have to be one to correctly operate that SLR to the fullest of its capabilities. :)

I sold mine 2 1/2 years ago ... an autumn red (great colour!) A4 1.8T quattro with the great sport seats, 17" BBS wheels and an APR chip to take it up to about 190 hp. The original A4 design still looks good after 12 years on the market, the 1.8T is a sweet engine, and the car was still solid with nary a squeak or rattle on it.

But at seven years of age, maintenance requirements were going up (normal wear and tear, mind you), so I bought a 2004 A4 1.8T quattro. Blue this time, 18" BBS, and I had to buy sport seats separately, but still fits the pattern. Updated styling, but if I were to bet, I'd say that 20 years from now the original design will be the classic, not the 2004 (let alone the current big grille design).
Nice A4s. If I am still in New England after I graduate college and have a decent job, I will look into BMWx's. The straight 6 that is put into those cars are simply marvelous. TomH, are you on AudiForums?

Madly in love with my 2001 Mercedes Benz C240. Its fast enough, handles beautifully and is serene and quiet even at 90 mph. Oh yeah, I get 32 mpg highway, 27 city, from a V6!!!!

I drove a C230. Waaaaaay too weak for me. Heck, my ML500 is even kinna weak (288hp/292ft lb). I'm hoping to be able to afford an 03 E55 AMG next (469hp/517ft lb). That should suffice.

I think it's hilarious, but only because I find it so humorous that the plate references that ancient joke.

Speaking of cars - I was reading Sports Car Market and what should I see but my old Rolls-Royce listed in the auction results! It apparently sold for $19k at Kruse's Auburn auction, but it's currently listed in RM's inventory so I guess someone's hoping to flip it for a bit more at a venue more friendly to old British cars. Maybe it'll be flipped around some more and I'll see it on Barret-Jackson.

I'm totally amazed at the price. I bought it for $7k on eBay in 2001, and in 2003 someone t-boned me at a red light. I took the insurance money and bought a couple of old Porsches, and sold the wreck to a nice guy in Arkansas for 2 grand in 2004.

How "nice" is he in that he flipped a totalled car Emanuel?

One has to wonder how much of the car's history was shared with potential bidders before the auction and whether Carfax has a complete history on it.

The car was way too old to Carfax - their records start in 1981, and thanks to states like Illinois (which doesn't disclose info on cars sold here) Carfax isn't all that reliable anyway.

As far as totalled, that was more my call than anything - the car was fixable if I wanted to throw another 10 grand at it, but I saw an opportunity to get out even and took it, mostly because I didn't have the guts to change the color while fixing it. The buyer's brother owns a body shop and he periodically sent me pictures of the car being restored, and the work was done to a high standard. I can honestly say I'd have no problem buying the car myself if it weren't still white.

That said, he was always a bit too eager to make a big sale with it, so the ads he wrote were a little less than forthcoming. That double-R logo tends to put stars in some eyes.

I don't know if I would worry too much about that, you got 2 classic Porsches in return for what you sold the RR for....I would say that is a pretty good deal myself. :)

It's funny, I'm totally non-interested in the E500 (in fact, I don't even like it), but I'm jumping for joy over the prospect of some pics of the 6.9.

My Daddy was a real car guy, he bought a brand new '57 Chevy when I was 3 years old, a lovely pink and tan version. He traded his cars yearly and although I don't think anyone can top Bill's list of cars owned - he was in the running. He favored American cars when I was very young and moved into all the foreign brands when I was a teenager - I took my driver's test on an Audi!!

I personally drive, and love, a 1995 purple Chevy Geo, with 3 doors and 4 cylinders (they also made a nifty 3 cylinder model) DH drives a huge Ford F150 conversion van, we need to haul all of his equipment around.

Let's hear it for Southern California! Incidentally, the owner of the car on the right (who also owns, among other things, an SLR, a Carrera GT, and will soon own a Zonda and a McLaren F1) is renting out the track at Willowsprings to have a professional driver compare his DTM to his Enzo. All things considered, the DTM should win.

And the owner of the car on the left has a CLK-DTM Cabriolet on order (also 1 of 100 built).
