(I can't believe I stay off the Forum for a little while and you guys let this thread die off!)

Picked up a new ride for the wife to save fuel running to see the grandsons all the time:

2005 E320 AMG Sport

With all the cars sitting on used car lots nowadays it's difficult to say no to some of the deals available. I came very, very close to grabbing a 2007 CLS 63 AMG with only 12K miles on it that was available from the same dealer where I picked up the E320. Even though it was more than twice as much as the E it was still less than half of list for a 2009 model.

Image

This was a very difficult decision, but I had to remind myself that I was shopping for a gas sipper, not another guzzler.

JHEM, That's a pretty car ... especially for a runaround for the wife.

Let me share with you some pictures of my MGRV8, a car you won't find in the USA.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v40/p ... g5_WEB.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v40/p ... er/mg1.jpg

It was first registered in 1994 and has a 3.9 litre V8 engine. Only 2000 were built and only 342 for the UK market. (The remainder were exported mainly to Japan.) Mine is therefore one of 342 ever made with the UK spec.

I'm about to get a new car so here will be the last posting of this tired old one.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3171/306 ... dd77_b.jpg

it's the turbocharged one in the background (one in the foreground is my roommate's.. with less than half as much horsepower haha).

ooh that reminds me, I haven't signed in here in a few months I gotta update my location big time. Photo taken yesterday in Phoenix AZ :D

edit: Right, almost forgot to mention --the new car will be a Mazda MX-5. I'm open to buying any generation but I'm partial to the Mazdaspeed MX-5 (even with the shortcomings), the 2002 Miata SE (yellow), the new MX-5s, and maybe even the new new (2009 or 2010) MX-5. As soon as I get a firm date on when the new MX-5 will be able to be seen in the flesh, I'll decide if I can bear to wait any longer.

.2007 Renault Scenic 2.0
.1996 Rover Mini 1.3i Equinox

soon getting a 2010 Citreon C3

The Mini (no point in pictures of the Scenic!!)
http://i730.photobucket.com/albums/ww30 ... 030573.jpg

http://i730.photobucket.com/albums/ww30 ... 030550.jpg

Like our roof? :D

We kinda got lost in Thetford Forest when we took these photos!
http://i730.photobucket.com/albums/ww30 ... 030479.jpg
That engine is a 1996 Rover 1275CC/1.3 injection with approx 63 BhP. Top speed is about 93 MPH (not that I've ever been that fast!!) It costs about £20 to fill up the fuel tank (+ a petrol can) to the max!!

img]http://i730.photobucket.com/albums/ww30 ... 030467.jpg[/img]

img]http://i730.photobucket.com/albums/ww30 ... 030468.jpg[/img]

The Mini was off the road from March 18th to September 27th 2009, whilist we restored it. It has had many new panles, new wheels, a new paint job (original colour) and a new dashboard and carpet set for the interior. The seats are purple and black.

It is a Mini Equinox, a special / limited edition of the Mini (from the early 1980s to the late 1990s there were many Mini special editions. the Equinox being one of the many!). Rover only ever produced 750 Mini Equinox's, and there were three colours - silver, purple and 'charcoal grey' (ie - Black), our Mini Equinox is charcoal grey, which was the rarest colour. 250 of each colour were built, but if you look on eBay - you will see many more silver and purple Equinox's for sale than charcoal ones.

You can see the restoration pictures / progress on the Norfolk Mini Owner's Club forum here
http://nmoc.forumotion.com/members-cars ... i-t490.htm

You will only ever see Mini Equinox's with an N or P plate, as they were only produced in 1996 (UK plates). Although some claim that there's was manufactured in 1995, it would have been 1996.

You probably won't find many Mini's in the US becuase in the late 1960s, the Americans said that cars had to go through safety legislations etc etc before they could be sold, and the Mini did not pass these legislations - so to save money, BMC (pre British Leyland) just simply stopped importing the Mini into the USA. If you see any Mini's in the US (or maybe Canada?), they'll be British or European imports.

Just thought I'd tell all you Thinkpaders about that!! Some of you may know that for a little while, my desktop background on the A31 was a black & white version of the first photo!

Congratulations! In my eyes you did a good hardware upgrade here. Is it a 328 or a 335i? A 335i allows you to keep the "turbo" and become Turbo BMW. :)

I have my old BMW parked back in Norway, waiting for me to come back home. That will be a huge upgrade from the Ford minivan that I share with my wife here in the US today.

Back in the days where I could spend more money on cars, I imported this DTM homologation special from germany. Opel Evolution 500. Fun car, but expensive when some of the special parts broke.

I bought myself a used Nissan Maxima a few months ago. 190hp, 5spd, 4 doors, reliable, and decently fun to drive. It's no German sports car, but it'll tide me over until I have the money for an E30 BMW or a 190E Mercedes.

Good choices for fun cars. In the early 90's both these two models came in various Evolution editions, as homologation specials for the DTM. Same way and the same time period as my old Opel Evo was from. As a BMW fan, my favorite of them all is the M3 Sport Evolution, with the 2.5 litre, 238 hp S14 engine. Rare and expensive.

True. I'm only here for school, though; I haven't got my car with me. That's also half the reason I went for a Japanese car instead of a nice German whip (for the $1500 I paid I could have had either of the two cars I mentioned): if I'm going to be away from the car for eight of the twelve months of the year, it won't be driven by anyone. When German cars aren't driven, they break. When Japanese cars aren't driven, they don't.

I'd be perfectly happy with a 190E 2.6. When I bought the Maxima I was looking at Preludes, Miatas, and other little four-cylinder screamers, but I can't do a high-revving engine. I went with the Maxima because I don't usually drive fast, and when I do I want my torque available under 4,000rpm, because that's where I keep the engine. Also, it was cheap, but let's pretend that wasn't the deciding factor in my purchase.

Thanks Norway Pad.

The car is a 328. I have driven the 335i many times, and I love it. However, I could not justify spending the extra money. In a year or two when I am doing much more work (sound system design etc.) I will look into other options, perhaps. But this will do for a few years! Gotta start somewhere

Nice car Killer, exactly the colour I would have chosen as well!
In the mountainous area where I live, one is better off with an SUV, so I drive a (rather common) Hyundai Santa Fe V6 AWD.
