FS: AMS TravelEX 100CT Ultraportable

I have a rather rough looking AMS TravelEx 100CT for sale. The 3gb hard drive is in quetionable health and the trackpad is on the fritz. Battery appears good and holds charge. Computer, with battery in place, makes wierd clicking noises until battery is removed. Keyboard works, 12.1" SVGA TFT looks great and the computer is very compact and has the same dimensions as an X series. 32mb RAM installed, 3gb hard drive and 266mhz Pentium MMX CPU. There are lots of scuffs and scratches on the outside and I'm selling this for parts even though the computer does power up and with my test drive, booted into Windows 98.

You have a LOT of computers

So, google doesn't actually tell me much about this, so does it have USB or network? Might make a very amusing ____ dunno what yet but heck laptops are cool like that!

Computer DOES have USB (go figure!) along with two Type I single cardbus slots (one on either side of the laptop) and an internal model which I'm assuming is a 56k since this laptop was made somewhere between mid-1998 and mid-1999.

As for computers, you might not believe it but my collection is significantly smaller than it once was (YIKES!). I have pics of various toys I own in the picture forum but I'll be sure to take a group shot of everything I have one of these days. Maybe I'll open a museum one day.

Oh, hey, Asspenny, do you still have that A21m I sent you? Were you able to get it working?

Again, $35 shipped and I'll try to scrounge up an AC adaptor. Oh, also, the battery issue no longer exists. Turns out the battery was so drained the computer had trouble getting it to take a charge initially but now it seems to work fine and the battery even seems to hold a good charge.

Nope, never got it to play. I put a new fan in it and the error went away, but still no joy. Must have been a mobo issue.

Oh well, it was still fun to tear it apart.

Ill take a stab at it, would you be willing to toss in a little more ram? I have a feeling the crate of EDO simms from those dusty computers won't work in this thing... nor would all those neat Pentium 1 processors I collected

Does it have an optical drive?

>_< im tempted to buy one of these notebooks, this or that other one you have listed think 150mhz its like discount priced fun! >_< not quite um... powerful but hopefully functional enough to pretend to run some programs.

O_o maybe a combo deal? dunno how I could use two but its like how I tend to pick up those computers people toss out (I am picky and just keep the stuff I need) they all seem to have potential!!!

O_o maybe my mom needs one for her odd spider solitare game...

If you still have the screen and keyboard and are willing to part with those, let me know as I ended up with another A21m that has a Latin American keyboard and screen that's going the way of the old south.

Awdark, I'll look through my desk as I think I might have an old SODIMM or two so I'll try to get the thing bumped up to 64mb or at the least, 48mb. There are no drives internal and unfortunatley, I don't have any external drives. I had to put the hard drive in a different computer to install Windows.

If you are interested in the 150mhz Toshiba notebook, that would probably be a fun adventure if you can get a floppy drive and a caddy for hard drive. Oh, coolest thing about that Toshiba despite the fact that it's built like a brick is that it has an asset barcode on the back that reads "Property of U.S. Government."

O_O no internal or external drives?
Guess they had to cut out the drives to make it small like that.

That would prove to be a challenge to install programs...

I have a feeling it wont like USB optical drives either... =[
Maybe usb floppy drive boot support... O_O thats almost has potential...

I shall think about it for a while.

So any ideas about usb boot support? maybe floppy, hopefully usb cd..

And any luck with digging up any extra ram?

No luck with USB boot or at least not from the USB floppy I use with my T21.

I put the computer up on eBay so you might be able to get this computer for less than my original asking price.
