Random internet connection problems on R50e with XP

For a few months now I have been experiencing slightly wierd connection problems on my R50e. It would seem when first starting up the machine of after waking it from sleep mode over night some applications will not get internet access for anywhere between a couple of minutes and a couple of hours then things seem to sort themselves out.

I have had this machine for a year or so now and have had the problem intermittently for the whole time although it does seem to be getting worse. I use Zone Alarm as a firewall and all my applications, Firefox/GAIM/Thunderbird/Various IRC clients etc etc have the problem.

I have moved house and changed ISP during the past year and the problem still continues. I have used other PCs and Macs on this connection with no problems, I have reinstalled XP after and HD upgrade and it still happens. I have run Spybot, AVG, Adware and all have come up clean.

This is why I think the problem is something I am doing wrong configuring windows or a problem with the Hardware istself.

any advice or suggestions would be greatly appriciated.
