Excellent review: Core Duo and Core 2 Duo compared

#1 Post by K. Eng » Thu Aug 03, 2006 9:09 am

Anandtech Article

The results are fairly suprising. Even though the Core 2 Duo is a much larger chip with more cache and execution resources than the Core Duo, the Core 2 Duo does not seem to consume more power than the Core Duo at the same clock speed.

The Core 2 is generally faster (5-15% per clock) as well. The advantage can be as much as 20% in multimedia applications

Based on this report, I would say that people looking to do a lot of encoding or video editing work on their notebook should get a Core 2. The rest of us would be fine with Core.
Homebuilt PC: AMD Athlon XP (Barton) @ 1.47 GHz; nForce2 Ultra; 1GB RAM; 80GB HDD @ 7200RPM; ATI Radeon 9600; Integrated everything else!

Based on the report I think smart people who do encoding and stuff would look at 10-15% and then think about how much money they would have to invest to get it and laugh.
