Software installer/System update for T43p Problems

I recently reinstalled the OS (Windows CD) and used both of the software installer and system update to get the lastest version drivers. But none of them can get all the required drivers and optional software. I uninstalled the software installer and system update, then just tried one of them, the same problem! I did remember the older version software installer worked perfectly; all the required and optional software can be retrived once.

My TP is T43p P2U. Anyone has the same problem? any idea?

Which required "drivers" are missing then?

If you do an install from the IBM factory recovery XP image, you will get some version of the factory install drivers and software on the ThinkPad and SI should be able to handle the updates for you.

However, if you install from a standard Microsoft XP installation CD, its up to you to get the optional software installed for the first time.

I notice that SI has not found updates dated July 18 and later. The updates are on the Device Driver Web page, and include BIOS and Thinkpad Configuration.

Is SI being disabled in favor of System Update?

according to this page, yes. They are still making SI available, though.

Given previous experiences with SI, I am going to wait on System Update until it gets the thinkpads.com seal of approval...

i open a new topic on that about two weeks ago and no one replied

i got the same exact issue. i re installed my T43 back to day one.
and it went and update only 3 things and thats it.
i expected it to update LOTS of stuff that where new in the last year and a half. but they never happen .....???

As I asked the OP (without any response so far) do you have anything specific, or just a general sweeping claim?

not sure i got your point , but i will clear mine just in case

since i got the T43 i had lots of updateds got installed. and im not talking about BIOS once - that are still there (in my bios)

so when going back to day one with the OS i assumed all those updates are needed again. i had way more then 3 updates in the last year and a half. so it doesnt make senst to me that only 3 where needed .....

I am guessing there is no consensus on which is / are the stable versions of Software Installer.
