Silly question from mac user: Win 2K on t42?

#1 Post by pdxforex » Fri Aug 04, 2006 3:26 pm

I need a windows machine for work, and for various reasons, prefer win2K for the OS.

I will probably get a T42 (or t42P) based on my (limited) research off of ebay.(Both have a vid card compatable with the Matrox triplehead2go product for multiple monitors).

My question is, can I get a windows 2k disc off ebay and just install it, or do I need the original system discs that came with the laptop? If I get the 2k disc off ebay, how do I updaye the OS for the functions of wifi, bluetooth, etc?

I know this is a silly question, but as a mac user, I really don't know. Help me out please!

(at least I knew enough to buy a thinkpad, right? =)

these are the supported vid cards for the matrox TH2go,

The nvidia has advantages, but so far I have not found a thinkpad with nvidia. (?)

My Windows XP machine looks and feels like my old Windows 2000 machine (except for Clear Type). XP supported everything I had running on Windows 2000. Share with us, if you will, why you would go to all the work of going backwards. Thanks, ... JD Hurst

I was told by my broker that 2K is more secure. Since I am working in finance, security is paramount. This computer will not be used for web browsing, or email.

Another IT noob strikes again ! Since when was your broker an IT expert, or alternatively, I am truly glad he/she is not my broker. The story from your broker is rubbish. As always, do as you wish, but at least be properly informed. ... JD Hurst
