Thinkpad T42 Stolen :-((

#1 Post by sairam313 » Fri Aug 04, 2006 4:58 pm

Hi,

I lost my most cherished IBM Thinkpad T42 last week :( It was stolen from a conference room. Even though the surveillance camera captured the video of the theif, the cops asked me to forget about getting my laptop back

I read about a feature computrace in the latest thinkpad that can track a stolen laptop. Do you know if this or some other feature was present in T42 laptops that may help me trace my computer? I have lots of valuable data in it and I am severely handicapped without it now.

:x  :(

Can you access pictures of the thief? I think you may be able to find him/her if you try.

If the police are advising you that you wont see it again, there is no magic technology that is likley to produce a different outcome.

You should definitely do the standard thing of personally presenting at the nearby pawn shops to see if its been hocked etc.

What planet are you from?

If we had an idea of your location and where the theft occurred, we might have some ideas to share as to possibly geting it back.

Passwords set???

Bill's idea is always a good one, check pawn shops in the area.

Why? is there any danger? Well, economically, it may not worth it. But I think at least you know if the guy is somebody that you know of. Plus, I think the monitor video can be used as evidence, right?

I think that what James is saying is that anyone that steals a Thinkpad *might* be a seedy person by nature, and perhaps unpredictable if confronted. I tend to agree. If you spot the thief, don't confront him but notify the authorities. Unless you have a real taste for danger, have a nice life insurance policy, and don't believe your loved ones will be missing you much.

That is probably what James meant. Thanks. I didnot go that far. I thought it is just something like: show the evidence and get back the lappy. 8)
