T43 (Type 2668-YHS) "Hangs" on Reboots/Shutdowns

#1 Post by abohnenk » Sat Aug 05, 2006 6:50 pm

This is my first posting ever.

I create the notebook and desktop images for my company for equipment all over the US.

I have been testing the latest build (now has XP SP2) of our next image release against all the different ThinkPad models in production. Things have gone well except I have encountered one issue that troubles me on one specific model.

My test T43 "hangs" on shutdown sometimes. No such issue exist on all other models tested (T30/T40/T41/T42/R51/R52/X60) at this point.

Has anyone seen anything similar on T43 units?

Background Info:

I have seen some "hangs" on shut down prior to adding XP SP2. It accepts the new image w/o issue. Mini-setup works fine. No issue with devices and their drivers. Postclone script runs fine as well. However, when you do the reboot after the script finishes you could see a "hang". I waited 5 minutes on one unit before shutting down dirty. Typically, I see the black post screen some 90 to 120 seconds after starting reboot after script completes on the other models. I have not done enough testing yet to confirm this but, it seems the first shut down is where you see the "hang". Subsequent reboots appear to work w/o issue.

Researching the logs have not given me much of a clue as they reveal the everything turns off and no errors are mentioned. What you see on the screen is just the blue background and the cursor (which at this point does not move). Way before getting to the 5 minute mark of waiting there is no more disk activity.

Each unit has the latest Embedded Controller and BIOS per the Lenova website. I do not see a BIOS setting that jumps out at me that ought to be changed. However, it appears Lenova has released several builds of the BIOS in particular for this model in its short history.

Image has SP2 that is patched and also has the audio/video/wireless hotfixes that are Microsoft specific and used on all my company images w/o issue.

Any suggestions on possible cause of the "hangs" seen on reboot or shutdown?

Thanks
