Disable Windows XP statndard start-up and shut-down tones

T60, windows XP:

how can i disable the annoying standard 2-3 sec long windows tone ("music") when i start-up the machine?

likewise, how to disable the windows shut-down tone?

In Windows, most sounds are controlled through:
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Sounds

The files you want to change or remove are:
Start Windows
and
Exit Windows
