Complete row of dead/stuck pixels & IBM Service Horror

#1 Post by princeatul » Mon Aug 07, 2006 1:01 am

I switched on my T43 today morning and my worst fear comes to life:
I see a full row of dead pixels, a plain white line, right across my LCD!
Just 4 months of absolutely careful usage and ... :-(

I tried a variety of utilities found on our posts:
PC Doctor & even Kyocera's
- http://www.gdargaud.net/Hack/DeadPixels.html
- http://www.psp-vault.com/Article168.psp
- Dead Pixel Buddy: http://www.laptopshowcase.co.uk/downloads.php?id=1

And in all tests white line, a full row of pixels, refused to budge and
remained white, though towards the frame they now show black colour.
But during bootup, at BIOS splashscreen, it is still white, end to end.

Unfortunately I don't have the camera to post pictures, but will do it soon.
Meanwhile, do you guys think it's time to call cust care and ask for a replacement.
Yes, system is still under it's default 1 yr warranty.

OOps, forgot to ask whether you would call it Dead Pixel or Stuck Pixels?

That might have to do with the LCD cable. Perhaps try disconnecting and reseating the connector.

In any case, I am sure that is covered under the warranty, so you should be fine.

Thanks for the pointer, will try that out and let you know the outcome.
I did have a bumpy ride to office today, I really wish loose connector is my issue.

Yeah, it is. Just wondering if it is something that can be solved in-house. Sending out for replacement is the last resort.

Horror STORY!!!

#4 Post by princeatul » Wed Aug 23, 2006 2:12 am

The problem was indeed with LCD. Logged a call and took the system to service
center (Pune, India). The guy took my system, had a look and promised my system
back in 3-4 days. To my horror when I go to receive my system what I get in
replacement in LCD that's physically damaged!!!
Yes, it had physical marks all over: smudges and as if hit multiple times with a pen     .

It's understood that replacement LCD might not be brand new, but neither should
it be as if someone played chess over it!
The guy over there told me to log another call after 2 months and I'll get
a better replacement then. Concern:
1. What's the gaurentee that I WILL get one! They can shun me away saying I
abused the LCD. They gave me nothing in writing!
2. Does it REALLY take 2 months to procure LCD? I got my system assembled and
shipped to me in US (from Honkong or SE Asia) in 5 flat working days!!!

Calling customer would be next to useless, because those guys will just log a
complaint (I already did that, though). What I'm seeking is how and where should
- I complain to highlight that I'm getting a substandard service quality?
- While ensuring that I get a clean LCD in replacement?
- What is the right course of action to take now?

Sending emails on addresses listed on website is futile, no responses received even after a week+.

Thanks in advance for your advices. Oh, BTW, if I missed it, system is still under warranty.
Dying to hear from you TP veterans.
