USB Connection - loose?

#1 Post by cjsuh » Sat Aug 14, 2004 11:47 pm

I don't know if this is typical of all USB connections, but I noticed that the connection on my ThinkPad is quite loose. I'm talking about the actual physical connection. It doesn't seem secure like the ethernet cable, the power cord, etc. My USB cables swivel left and right a good half centimeter when placed in either USB slot. Should I be concerned at all with this?

I'll be interested in the answer--my power cord has decided recently that it wants to do the same thing. I suspect the cure is to sent it in and have "them" fix it.

In my opinion, both connectors are poorly designed mechanically. They both really out to have some sort of locking and strain relief mechanism, be it a spring detent, like RJ-xx or screw-down like, VGA.

This is one good reason to get port replicators or mini-docks if you do move your TP between home and office a lot. They're a lot cheaper than having to replace the sockets on a TP.
