System Update 2 updating itself so won't run
System Update 2 updating itself so won't run
Since I updated to System Update 2 I cannot get it to work.
When I try to run it I get an error that says "System Update is being updated. Please wait while System Update restarts".
When I click OK it closes System Update but nothing happens. It's been doing this for several weeks. Normally I use Software Installer anyway but it seems to me that System Update should work.
I even tried uninstalling System Update and reinstalling it but got the same result.
Anybody else seeing this?

Success!
Finally I got System Update to work!
I manually downloaded it again from the Lenovo website, uninstalled it and reinstalled it 3 times. On the 3rd try it began to work. Weird!

After you uninstall it be sure to manually delete all of the folders and files that are left over. The uninstall process does not remove everything.MadManMund wrote:I also can not get system update 2 to work anymore. It stops at 11% and then returns an error message. I have tried removing and manually reinstalling multiple times with no improved results. Any insight on fixing this would be helpful.
Reboot before you reinstall.
Good luck!

My opinion on updating is, don't update unless you absolutely have to. I've had countless experiences in which I update and it crashed my system. Just recently I used the system update to update and it totally crashed my system. Turned out the new display drivers were incompatible with the advance dock and there was a trick that you had to do to update the wireless driver. So if it's not broken, or if it's not a serious security update, I say DON'T UPDATE.
Have a look at the log in Program Files/ Lenovo/ System Update/log: tvsu_log.txt. The log file may give a clue as to where it is stopping. (Note the log file is over-written after each run.)MadManMund wrote:The process still halts at 11%. I am able to update using software installer.
System Update eventually returns : "An error occured while gathering user information"
I had a similar problem, although it stopped with an 'unexpected exception', which was caused by the proxy I use. (Same proxy had always worked before.) Removing the proxy clears the problem, although I have to clear/ restore the proxy everytime now that I want to check System Update. (Not what i would expect from a once-reliable source of software.)

T41p-2373-GEG & a T61-6466-9YG
I FOUND THE SOLUTION!!!
Yesterday i formated my thinkpad and i made lots and lots of changes in it, infact i made so many changes that i also got the:
"An error occurred while gathering user information."
I lost the intire day in it, searching google, IBM and Lenovo websites for some possible reference or solution for it... and couldn't find anything. The only thing i found was this forum... and no solution for it...
All i had to do was...
1 - Click start button
2 - Run...
3 - Write 'msconfig' without quotes and click Enter
4 - Goto 'Services' tab...
5 - ...and make sure 'System Update' is checked/enabled
That's it!
Worked for me, hope it works for you!
P.S.: This is my first post!
edit: Oh no it's not! Last year i tried to buy a hinkpad here! LOL

Re: System Update 2 updating itself so won't run
I seem this with TVSU2 on Windows 2000 with .net framework 1.1, when I installed .net framework 2.0 then it seemed to work finewpwood3 wrote:Since I updated to System Update 2 I cannot get it to work.
