Intel Meron in X60
Intel Meron in X60
I've ordered a X60s (170544U) that is estimated to ship on September 4th, 2006.
Accroding to CNET NEWS.com, the Intel Merom chips started shipping to manufacturers in July.
See article here:

The Lenovo Sales Reps don't seem to know about the Merom.
QUESTION: does anyone at this newsgroup know when we can expect to see the Merom chip in the X60?
I read that the Merom chip will work in the same mother board as the Core Duo: "The other beauty of Merom is that it is 100% compatible with existing Yonah designs, meaning that all Core Duo notebooks today should be able to accept a Merom processor with at most a BIOS update.

Re: Intel Meron in X60
The sales guys won't know about Merom until it has been announced and they have had training on it. I didn't think any Merom notebooks were going to be shipping until Q4 06. It will be on the X61 which I would expect around october/november. I personally get the impression that its not a big enough leap to hold off a buying decision though.luckymaf wrote:I've ordered a X60s (170544U) that is estimated to ship on September 4th, 2006.

merom won't be worth buying until santa rosa launchs in the first half of 2007
centrino version 1 was the single core yonahs
centrino version 2 was the dual core yonahs
centrino version 3 will be the dual core meroms
google "intel santa rosa platform" and you'll get a ton more information
i wouldn't hold my breath like the other guys in here have been saying

So for me, using a T42 but going for a X60, that will be something worth waiting for.christopher_wolf wrote:Merom will indeed be 64-bit; meaning it will be fully able to natively support 64-bit OSes and applications.
But it all depends on what situation you're in; I've got a pretty good laptop but would like a smaller one since my working conditions changed recently. But I'll manage for another 4-6 months or so (whatever it takes to get a X61 to Sweden...).

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
