To be clear: Lenovo didn't charge for return shipping. I had to arrange for and pay for return shipping.

I suggest that you call Lenovo and tell them that you will refuse the erroneously shipped package and give them the tracking number.

Then do one of two things:

(1) Call UPS (or whomever) and tell them that the package is a mistake and that you are refusing it. Give them the tracking number. With any luck, you'll never see the package.

If that doesn't work:

(2) Refuse the package in person when it arrives at your door, or put a notice on your door clearly showing the shipping number, the shipping company's name, your name, and signature saying that you refuse this specific shipment and that it was sent in error. Include a printout of the tracking page for extra security.

Refused shipments are paid for by the shipper.
Thanks for the advice, the problem is there are two packages in the shipment, and chances are I probably won't be home when they are delivered and someone else will sign for them. I am afraid that they might reject the wrong package since they are coming together. When I go on the shipping confirmation page it lists both packages in the "track your package" link. I guess the only way to find out which is which is to look at the packing list specs. What a mess

refusing delivery may result in being charged a restocking fee. if you need to return an already shipped item then you should follow lenovo's directions. They probably will tell you to accept delivery, not to open, and call UPS for a pick up (should be on them as it was their mistake)

I thought as long as you keep the package un-opened it will avoid the restocking fee?

ordered 6/18:

7675CT Lenovo x61
-bluetooth
-fingerprint reader
-intel T7300 C2D
-80gig HD
-802.11N

On the order status page it shows an estimated ship date of 07/19/07
, does this sound right? ...... I thought it would ship sooner?

Based on my machine, ordered during the first hours of availability in a rush situation, 2-3 weeks is probably right. (Ordered 5/31, shipped 6/17.) If they have run out of parts, it could take longer. Keep your fingers crossed.

A lot of companies are locking down on the refusing delivery loophole...after all they are still paying the delivery charges to the delivery company when the buyer refuses delivery. Returning without an RMA (as in refusing delivery) delays return processing and may incur a restocking fee. So it's best to follow their directions for the return. If it is Lenovo's fault and the order was shipped to you by mistake then Lenovo should pick up the return shipping, but make sure you get an RMA so that your return can be processed correctly.

This is odd, Lenovo wanting to RMA instead of telling you to refuse the shipment. Refused shipments can be sold as new. RMA shipments have been in a customer's possession and are therefore sold a refurbished.... Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

The comment that you should talk to Lenovo and get instructions is sagely, though. If Lenovo wants to RMA and they will pay for shipping, that's best. Call them.

Holy Baffling Customs Backlog, Batman!

Lenovo shipped my machine express on the 16th, but now it's stuck in customs. I was worried I'd get my 4GB before the machine arrived! I'm in LA. At one point it was less than 40 miles away from me in Ontario, CA. Now it's in Kentucky!

Same here on shipping... what gives?

#249 Post by temovr » Tue Jun 19, 2007 4:21 pm

They're teasing me on shipping too... wonder what the delay is???
Spent an hour on the phone this AM with no answer from Lenovo's 866-96-THINK line (order status option).... once they've got you as a paid customer, they've got you and they don't care... several phone calls/ emails into my sales rep about air card swap out option should it not work in the areas in need it to work in went un answered (he's probably too busy taking people's $$$ to care to answer technical questions)... i hope this thing is as reliable as you guys say it is because post sale/ pre delivery support can't be any worse. Anyone know what number to call for the hw repair line, extended service? I might as well call them now to ensure people actually answer the phone in case the hw needs service. If the after purchase service is as bad as what i've seen, i may need to opt out :(
Good luck to all.... thanks.

Just talked to UPS it seems like all our packages are in the same
"large" shipment and UPS does not have the proper sorting facilities in Ontario, CA. So they must all be sent back to Louisville to be sorted and then they will be sent out to be delivered by 10:30 am tommorow supposedly

Emphasis mine. It'd be great if the package arrived at 10:30AM tomorrow. Possible. Likely? Would mean I would get the 4GB and the computer the same day. Yeah!

well i am simply fed up with lenovo now. i ordered my x61T on 5/31, the day they were available. while some people who ordered on that day or a day or two after that have had their x61T's shipped on 6/16, my estimated ship date was 6/19.

i was not that angry about the 3 days difference, but 6/19 came and went, and this morning i get an email saying my order has been delayed anywhere from 1 to 30 days!! i check my updated order status and it says 7/20!! that is simply unacceptable. i ordered on 5/31, some people order that same day and ship on 6/16, but mine is 7/20. i am about to call Lenovo and let them hear it :x

update on my shipping status:

i called Lenovo as soon as their call lines opened at 9:00, and got instantly connected to a rep(nice for a change lol), and the guy i spoke to said my order had been giving a tracking number and it appeared as though it has been shipped out this morning.

he said that my est. ship date was 7/20 because it probably just automatically did the worst case scenario on the delay which would be 30 days. so, after all that worrying, it appears as though mine shipped out this morning, only 1 day late. i still havent got the email saying it shipped and giving me a tracking number, but the guy felt confident it was going out this morning :D

Delay...

#262 Post by David Fenner » Wed Jun 20, 2007 11:46 am

My X61T original ship date was 6-19 and I was all excited to check on the shipping status this morning. Instead, I received an email reading:

"Dear Customer

We apologize, but we are unable to ship one or more items on your order but anticipate shipment within 1 to 30 days of this notification . . . "

My new ship date is 7-20, which is what I believe people are getting if they order one today, which does not leave me overly optimistic about receiving the unit anytime soon.

I have two X61 T's on Order. I originally placed an order on June 6 and then placed a second order on June 16, in which I decided to change my configuration a bit and add the ultrabase. I called Lenovo first thing Monday morning to cancel my first order and was told that it shouldn't be a problem. When I checked this morning, my first order that I had tried to cancel has now shipped. My configuration and cost is listed below:

As you can see it is the SXGA screen with 160GB 5200 hard drive, 2GB RAM and 1GB Turbo. My choices are either to return this unit to Lenovo unopened for a full refund, or if anyone is interested, I'd be willing to sell this unit at my cost, plus whatever additional shipping to a U.S. address. I'm located in Long Island, NY and expect the unit to be in my hands in the next 2 - 3 days. Please let me know if anyone is interested.

Thanks!

hey man, i had the exact same thing happen to me. i was totally furious, and i called lenovo this morning, only to have them tell me it was shipping out today :D

the rep i spoke with told me that when there is a delay, they basically assume the worst with the est. shipping which is why the bumped it back the max 30 days, but in reality your x61T should ship today or tomorrow.

"Dear Customer

We apologize, but we are unable to ship one or more items on your order but anticipate shipment within 1 to 30 days of this notification . . . "

My new ship date is 7-20, which is what I believe people are getting if they order one today, which does not leave me overly optimistic about receiving the unit anytime soon.
hey man, i had the exact same thing happen to me. i was totally furious, and i called lenovo this morning, only to have them tell me it was shipping out today :D

the rep i spoke with told me that when there is a delay, they basically assume the worst with the est. shipping which is why the bumped it back the max 30 days, but in reality your x61T should ship today or tomorrow.
I think they need to learn how to update the status, otherwise, it's just useless...
Not unless Lenovo wants to give it's customer surprise.

I have my X61 tablet. There are a few oddities, but I think it is Vista. Anyway, I have my web site up now, with lots of pictures of the machine being unpacked and booted for the first time.
