12AM now and it still shows it's in Kentucky. I doubt I'll receive it tomorrow. I'm going to shoot for Friday so I can stop thinking about it.

Update:

another import scan:

LOUISVILLE,
KY, US 07/31/2007 12:05 A.M. IMPORT SCAN

Delivery date got pushed back to 8/1 (original: 7/30). That's two days at customs, way to go UPS.

Did you mean to say July instead of August?!?!
Oops, you're right, I meant July in that post (I changed it above in the edits), thanks for noticing.

But you are right, they are totally confused. And I probably won't get mine until around when they told you that you'd get yours. It's really not a good way to do business at all. Under-promise, and over-perform would be worth them considering....

That's the understatement of the year! Lenovo, it's all about the supply chain, and managing it. They didn't seem to get that memo.

Anyway, I checked UPS this morning, and the package is out for delivery! So whomever said that they would be delivered by 10:30 AM, you got some accurate information.

Mine was delivered at 9:17AM, but unfortunately the business address wasn't opened yet. :( I'll either have to pick it up later today or have them schedule another delivery tomorrow.

Mine was delivered at 9:40 today :) Have it opened up and running.

Upgraded it to 2 gb of ram, and noticed I have a SIM card reader down there. Will look into it more later.

I also have a seagate hard drive (7200 rpm, 100 gb) which I have not heard yet.

My power adapter thingy does make noise but only sometimes, and for like 15 seconds.

Overall, my first impresion of it is very positive.

The wait is TORTURE.

I just called UPS and they wouldn't let me pick it up myself unless 3 consecutive delivery attempts have been made.

Mine arrived at 10:15 this morning. Added a RAM DIMM which was easy but then I had a tough time getting that hard drive access cover off. It would not slide up. Finally came off. Looks like the rubber mount on the side of the drive was pressing against the door and not letting it slide off. I put in a 7200 rpm drive. Powered it up and looked for dead or stuck pixels against the black screen-didn't see any. I'll install XP Pro using an external Sony DVD drive later tonight. :D

Ordered an X61s with UltraLight screen

Order Date: 8/1
ESD: 8/20

This is the only information that shows up in the order status page:
7668CT CONFIGURED SYSTEM
46P4166 VBB MICROSOFT WINXP PROFESSION
42X0239 SBB MSWIN XP PROF US ENGLISH
41W2060 VBB 1GB PC2-5300 667MHZ 1DIMM
42X0133 SBB KEYBOARD US ENGLISH
42X0754 SBB TRACKPOINT W/FINGERPR.READ
42V9130 SBB 80GB HDD,5400RPM ATA 2.5"
62P6054 VBB INTEGR.BLUETOOTH PAN
42V8177 SBB INT.WIRE.WIFI/LINK4965AGN
41W1829 SBB 4CELL LI-ION BATTERY 2.6AH
41W1787 SBB CPK NORTH AMERICA
27R1769 SBB PSTN CABLE
42X0165 SBB LANG.PACK US ENGLISH

I'm a bit worried because I paid for an UlutaLight screen but that part doesnt seem to show up in this listing (and there are many less parts than other people's posts have shown). The worst part is my confirmation e-mail only said that I had placed an order, it didn't say specifically what for - so how can I prove I paid for an UL screen?

A bit worried as Lenovo doesnt seem to have a good track record with X61's.

Heh, I knew I should have ordered yesterday!

I would have gotten an earlier ESD and I wouldn't have been forced to pick an 80gb 5400 HD instead of a 60Gb 5400 HD (Going to replace it with a 7k200 anyways).

First off, thanks to all on these fora; I'd been on the fence about getting a Thinkpad for school/work (I'm a graduate student who teaches and travels a lot), but the wealth of information here and at a notebook review forum sealed the deal for me.

After a month or so of watching the shipping saga, I placed my order for an x61s last night:
7668CT CONFIGURED SYSTEM
VBB MS WIN VISTA HOME BASIC
42X0367 SBB MSWINVISHOMB32 US ENGLISH
41W2060 VBB 1GB PC2-5300 667MHZ 1DIMM
42X0133 SBB KEYBOARD US ENGLISH
42X0753 SBB TRACKPOINT
42V9134 SBB 100GB HDD,7200RPM ATA 2.5"
62P6054 VBB INTEGR.BLUETOOTH PAN
42V8177 SBB INT.WIRE.WIFI/LINK4965AGN
41W1830 SBB 8CELL LI-ION BATTERY 2.6AH
41W1787 SBB CPK NORTH AMERICA
27R1769 SBB PSTN CABLE
42X0202 SBB LANG.PACK_US ENGLISH
UL screen not listed above, but does show up on all of the other order information.

First estimated shipping date: 8/22/07.

I've also got a 2GB stick of RAM on the way, and a Ubuntu 7.04 installation ready to go. Looking forward to seeing the machine sometime in the next couple of months!

That's really cool. Glad that someone is getting an order in the sxga+ department.

But somehow it confuses me that I ordered mine before you on June 20 with the same screen (said to be the delay culprit) and yet mine still has no sign of being any closer to production.

How is it that some order their 2 weeks ahead of others, yet get theirs in advance???? (and they say that nothing other than the screen is delaying it).

Where is their process?

DavidNY-

I found your previous post when you ordered yours- July 5-

How do they decide the ordering sequence, when I ordered mine on June 20, with nearly the same configuration, and I still don't have any unit heading my way???????????

They said it was the sxga+ screen delaying things, but yours has one too, and it's been delivered!

congratulations on your delivery, I just wish I had some idea what's going on with mine!

I just noticed the 'quote' function didn't have my original post date. Silly board script. I did it quickly to get back to the new computer.

Obviously I have no clue about what's going on with Lenovo. Best of luck with getting yours shipped. Technically I was expecting it today, they shipped it on the 6th. Maybe they meant delivery on 8/7. Who knows.

By the way, this computer, as expected, has the "IBM" color logo.

DavidNY,

I've made some calls to Lenovo to try to get some understanding about my order. They said they'd try to find out (as they've promised before).

It's become a laughable issue at my company. My IT expert orders all of our office machines from Dell, and never ever faced any delays like this. I thought that this Lenovo product might give him a reason to consider Lenovo for future products.

We have about 30 people and more like 40 or more computers at our office, high powered CAD machines, and lots of Wacom tablets for design, etc.

Lenovo is being observed by him and many decision makers who could bring them much more business than they realize, but this experience is making them look inept and unreliable as a business partner for a company like ours.

It also leaves me with a bad taste and experience and will stay with me for a long time, reminding me about how much hassle it is to do business with them. Not a pleasing experience at all.

In your sig I see you are expecting a "100G 7k200". I imagine you mean 7k100.

Our configs are a little different (I didn't order a WWAN or Ultrabase.) I kept it simple....

David,

On my order sheet it does say 7,200 for the DVD drive, so I think it is still correct, but then I'm not sure I'd notice the difference....

The ultradrive is a separate part, so it shouldn't hold up the tablet production or shipping, and they haven't told me anything about the wwan being an issue in all the calls I've had with them about it.

I could even imagine that they simply can't keep track of orders!!!!!

If they had an issue with what is delaying it, why can't it be communicated to me?

I ordered an X61T similar to gdavis on 7/10 with an expected delivery date of 8/31.

That status hasn't changed since I placed my order and I was well aware of the delay. If it should go past the 8/31 date I wouldn't be too surprised about it. I won't be too happy about it either.

I guess besides the SXGA+ screen debacles, the holdup now is with the Cingular WWAN card which in all due fairness to Lenovo they did indicate would add an additional 2-3 wks. to the wait.

I just hope it doesn't have any problems once I receive it, otherwise I'm really going to blow a gasket.

What do you mean, the hold up is now the Cingular wwan card? They never said one word about that to me! Nor did the web site have any mention about it. And they definitely haven't mentioned it to me since June 20 after placing the order in any calls or emails we've had either!

So I'm not sure about what 'fairness' is covering here....

gdavis - Yes, that may be true. But when you order from Dell is it immediately after a new model is released? A new model that thousands of people order on release day? No, I don't think so. This is the same problem that all commercial enterprises face: the law of supply and demand. High demand -> low supply == you have to wait to receive your machine. Dell is no better.

So I'm not sure about what 'fairness' is covering here....[/quote]

That statement was refering to my particular circumstances ie: I can't complain about the wait because I was made aware of the delays before I ordered.

I can't and won't speak about your situation, but as I was configuring my laptop the Cingular WWAN option indicated a warning that an additional 2-3 wk. wait may delay shipment. The SXGA+ screen option also had a similar warning. Since SXGA+ screens seem to be back in supply and orders are being shipped I just assumed the holdup is now with the Cingular WWANs and/or components of the wireless system.

I haven't contacted Lenovo because they gave me the 8/31 ESD and I just have to wait.

Hi all...

New board member saying "Hi."

On 08/02/07 I ordered my third thinkpad and was really thrilled to find your forum. I look forward to being a part of it.

I Also figured I'd share my experience with ordering my x61s.

My order has already been split into 3 parts, 2 of which have been delivered. Unfortunately neither one is the actual computer

Wish me luck!
