FS: HP Jornada 680E Handheld, WiFi, 512MB CF Card, Case

#1 Post by dsigma6 » Wed Aug 09, 2006 7:45 pm

I haven't been using my HP Jornada 680E lately so I'm thinking of selling it. Since I'm not dying to get rid of it, I'm going to hold steady with a price of $125 shipped USPS Priority. Check eBay, people want more in most cases, and they only come with the basics. If it doesn't sell for this price, It'll just go back on my shelf!

Edit: If someone (established member) has a solid condition T/X 20/21/22/23 for trade plus cash, I'd also consider that.

Includes:

Jornada 680E
Stylus
Li-Ion Battery
Charger
Serial Cable
Case
Enterasys Roamabout Wireless PCMCIA Card
512MB Compact Flash Card
Brand New Backup Battery
Extra 16MB ROM Board

Here's some more info on it:

6.5" touch-screen
Durable compact Hand Held PC weighing in at 1.1 pounds (510 g)
Microsoft Windows CE 3.0 with Core System 2.11 and Pocket Office pre-installed
Powered by the Hitachi SuperH SH-3 processor for great performance
Built in 16 MB RAM provides ample room for storage
Expandable with a PCMCIA Type II PC Card Slot
Full QWERTY keyboard presents a familiar layout for typing
Synchronizes with desktop or laptop through the cradle, serial port, or InfraRed (ActiveSync)
Compact size of 18.9 cm x 9.5 cm x 3.4 cm (WxDxH)

This little guy is great when you don't feel like taking your Thinkpad out for some basic web browsing (hellllllo forums!), email, and also word processing. As stated above, it includes Pocket Office with word, excel, powerpoint, outlook, etc.

The unit is in like new condition, except for one hairline crack on the bottom casing. I'll get pictures up if there's any interest, but to clarify the crack isn't on the Jornada, it's on a shell that covers the bottom. Once again, just a hairline from tightening a screw just past it's breaking point. This is a Dutch Railway conversion, as most on eBay are.

There is no cradle. I never bought one because I didn't really think it was necessary.

These batteries, when new, are supposed to last something like 8 hours. I've never used it more than 3-4 hours before charging, but at that point I remember it having between 1/2 and 1/3 power remaining.

The other day I found out it was on for over 12 hours, but the screen must have dimmed, as there is a setting to dim after X amount of idle time. Come to think of it, it could have been on for much longer than that.

I'll turn it on before I go to bed at full brightness with wifi running and see if it's on when I wake up.

EDIT:
1) I did try to test the battery last night, but silly me went into it without a fully charged battery. It's on the charger right now so at lunch I'll pull the plug and check back later.
2) The extra 16MB ROM module included was purchased as a working pull, but I have not installed/tested it. I assume that it works, but I can't guarantee it.

8/11 Edit:
Fully charged, I removed the power cord at 4:45PM. At 10:30PM I returned to find it still had 1/5 power remaining on the meter. When I came back at 12:00AM it had shut itself off to avoid losing any information. So I'd say somewhere between 6-7 hours on full brightness with wifi on, with power save mode selected. The light was blinking on the wifi card the entire time, so it was certainly still using power. It's unnecessary to use the brightness all the way up unless you're outdoors.

Only going to bump this once- $125 shipped, or I'll at least listen to offers.

Thanks,
Dan
