HTS721010G9AT00 2010 error, is there firmware for this this?

#1 Post by Cowman » Thu Aug 10, 2006 11:56 am

I put a 100gb 7200rpm hitachi HTS721010G9AT00 drive into my t43 the other day. It works great beyond the annoying BIOS message. I've read about the firmware upgrades on here but I don't see this model mentioned. Is there even firmware for it?

I find this really annoying, did Lenovo just put some code into their BIOS to force users to purchase their overpriced upgrades or what? I fail to see a ligitimate reason for this "error".

IIRC you need the latest BIOS for your notebook, not the hard drive.

There's nothing wrong with the drive, Lenovo just put that message in as they use a SATA-->PATA bridge and it isn't 100% compatible technically, but in every case I've heard works fine.

I upgraded my BIOS to the newest version before putting in the drive... 1.28(I think, that's from memory).

As of now it works, I'm posting from the T43 with my new drive going. I just don't want to look at the error when I power up. Yeah I know, it doesn't matter. It just bugs me

Well the firmware utility just says I don't need an upgrade.

:(

Browsing around it looks like I can either try a hack to force a firmware update(and risk destroying a brand new drive) or live with the error.

I have two of the exact drive you report. The 'hack' works perfectly if you follow the directions.

T60p 8741-C3U T7600 : 100Gb : 15.4 WSXGA+
T43p 2687-M8U P-M 760 : 100Gb : 15 IPS UXGA
Z60m 2531-MTU P-M 760 : 100Gb : 15.4 WSXGA+
