Obsessed with the X60 series

#1 Post by luckymaf » Thu Aug 10, 2006 12:52 pm

I'm normally not this way. But since ordering the Thinkpad X60s, (1705-44U) which is scheduled to ship on September 4th, 2006, I've become obsessed with the X60 series. I find myself constantly visiting this newsgroup for any nuance of detail about the X60. I click Lenovo.com's Search option to check the difference between the 1702-xxx, 1703-xxx... 1705-xxx.
QUESTION: Is this behavior normal? Have you seen this kind of behavior before? Should I seek professional help?

This is a disease called Fanboyism as far as I'm aware.
The only way you can cure yourself is to talk to an Apple Mac Zealot for at least 3 weeks solid. :(
760ED All the way.

FEEL THE BURN! From the bottom of that particular laptop... right in the bawsack! eek

What do you want to know? I use an X60s (1704-69U) on a daily basis and it just chugs along.

Seriously though, I was the same way with my first thinkpad....and my second. I do not think I will buy another brand, never felt that way with other notebooks.

I thought I was the only one. XD I'm getting mine next month and I check the site often, to say the least. I think it's just the excitement of getting a new toy. I can't wait!

I ordered my X60s with the Back to School program. $1799, a steal. I noticed the same obsession, I must have read the notebookreview.com review about 10 times. Fortuantely, mine is supposed to ship 8/21 not 9/4 like you ;-)
X60s 1704-69U (Core Duo 1.66LV, 1.5GB, 100GB 5400, 12.1" XGA, WWAN, 8 Cell, DVDRW in X6)
External Storage: 250GB + 500GB Porshce

T40 Project: (Planned) P-M 2GHz, 2GB, 100GB, DVDRW

You...are...not...alone.

I check this and the notebookreview forum several times a day. I ordered my X60s (yes, the extravagantly loaded one from the Back to School sale) on 7/25, and it's supposed to ship 8/16. I read about how some people said their Lenovos shipped early, but no such luck for me.

So, until it ships (and I hope it ships on time), I'll read the review for the 100th time, read the spec sheet for the 80th time and keep checking these forums. A co-worker of mine told me that since I don't have a new lappy to play with I should by an accessory. I've been playing with my new bluetooth mouse for a week :-)

Good luck!

Sadly the disease is not cured by actually receiving your laptop. It just gives you that much more to obsess about. The X60s is a great machine. Enjoy!

Actually you should consider yourself very lucky. As you see, I have multiple obsessions.... very sick... what to do? The T series, X series, Z series, related accessories.....
To answer your quesion I have sought professional help only to learn:
1) The Good News is that it's not fatal
2) The Bad News is because it's not fatal, I will suffer for a very long time.....

Hi,

I have the same desease... I want to upgrade my R51 that is 2 years old and still wonderful machine, but quite heavy (about 3 kg). I'm in the music/art business, this thinkpad has been on lots of stages and never gave a problem. So I want to upgrade to something light, duo core and loaded with lots of memory and fast hard drives.

I've considered a Macbook since for my work, with a music software company, it could be convenient to have both Mac OSX and Windows.... but I can't help wanting a X60 or X60s more! X60(s) is muc lighter too, and that's one of the prime reasons for upgrading.

I just fell in love with thinkpads.... doh! And here in France it is so expensive as soon as you want to get more options, very sad. What costs 2500$ in the US would be 2800 euros here, with these distributors.... Lenovo does not sell directly on their website here, it sux.

So, long story to tell about my desease too... I want one ! I want one !!!! help me !!!!! :)

Regards,
amo

Would you consider getting it from an online retailer? I know that Euclidcomputers and costcentral has the X60 for less than what Lenovo has, and I think they ship worldwide and nextday. I'm thinking of getting one from a retailer because its cheaper and they'll ship sooner since they're pre-built. Its hard to decide because I don't want a damaged one. =/

Hi,

Yes, I consider Euclid. Costcentral does not ship internationally.

I'm also considering a T60p... Just come to think about power, since it has to be a music machine, and it seems the performances of the T60p are quite outstanding.... Double desease!

best,
amo

Well, not just people with X60s have an obsession.

I got my NEW T42p 3 weeks ago and I'm in love with it.
It's a biggest step forward than my previous Thinkpad T30, 512MB RAM, 30GB 4.2K HDD, without integrated wireless.

It's such a pleasure to own a Thinkpad
