T41p/T42p Owners - Where do you get Fire GL Drivers??

#1 Post by djpharoah » Thu Aug 10, 2006 2:02 pm

I reinstalled windows xp on another harddrive on my T41p. I noticed that the Ati Fire GL drivrs the IBM Restore CDs were using were from 2004.

Arent those drivers a bit old?? I also notice that ATi doesnt support the Fire GL T2 128mb anymore with their firegl drivers and the latests ones from IBMs website are still from only 2005.

Anyone find a way to get the current ati drivers to work for their fire gl t2s?

Thanks

I don't know about the official drivers, but you could always use the Omega Drivers.

I used those - but those dont let your card use openGL!!

They run your card with d3d instead of opengl - opengl isnt even an option in the ati control panel.

I've always had a horrible "flicker" problem with my SXGA+ screen whenever I use non-IBM ati drivers. The same goes for linux unless I use their open source ones. For a while I thought it was just my machine, but, I found reports of people trying out Vista and other linux users with T42p's having the same issue.

I've tried omegas, they somehow died and couldn't provide acceleration for some reason (weird). There is no reason why omega drivers would disable opengl, normally they run opengl fine

Install the normal drivers and then patch them with DHMod I think it's called.

Yeah, I used the same thing on an Acer 5022Wlmi and it doesn't have the CCC either. Maybe this is a bug in their software, as the download I used was the CCC version. Either way it works fine on the Acer. Hope that helped.

At this point - I might as well run te older IBM Driver since it has a Control Panel where I can tweak my AA and AF and OpenGL settings.

Right-Click on Desktop --> [Properties] --> Settings --> [3D] --> Custom

That's the path to adjust stuff like that.
