R40 running hot??
R40 running hot??
Hallo,
My R40 is about 3 months old, my first laptop. I am concerned that it is running hot. The fan does not run continuously and I always have the machine on my desk or a wooden tray if on my lap. Is this normal for laptops please?
Any advice would be appreciated,
Many thanks,
papillon

Nice. Appears to be what many people are desperately looking for nowadays, a near-silent (IBM ThinkPad) notebook with some fairly decent specs.papillon wrote:Hallo,

Download and run MobileMeter:papillon wrote:and I always have the machine on my desk or a wooden tray if on my lap. Is this normal for laptops please?

Right-click on its icon in the system tray, choose "Options...", then go to the ACPI temperature tab and make a mental note of the entry for "Active Cooling Temperature". Close the MobileMeter configuration window, start to work with your notebook and periodically check the temperature MobileMeter displays on your desktop. Whenever the temperature reading you can see there exceeds the value for "Active Cooling Temperature", the fan should come on. It's perfectly ok for the fan to stay off at temperatures below.
Best regards,
Monty

Re: R40 running hot??
Have had my R40 for about a year now. Recently noticed the unit getting hot underneath, in that below the area by the fan. Is this a fan issue and/or would you know? Thanks for you help. *NOTE: I've downloaded and have been running MobileMeter, in that doesn't seem to show any results.
Thanks,
Ralph
