Turning Wireless off and on again

#1 Post by Nick Y » Fri Aug 11, 2006 1:42 am

Strange thing with Fn+F5. To test the contents of a cache (Google Earth, so that I can demonstrate something later, away from a wifi area) I used Fn+F5 to turn off the connection.

On completion of my tests, I turned the wireless connection back on. After a few seconds it was back connected; not surprising as I am 20 feet away from the antenna and the only one using it.

After a couple of minutes, the wireless connection was lost. Fn+F5 said that wireless was off!

I have had this before and the only way to maintain a re-connection, in such circumstances, is to reboot. I have a 2915ABG installed and I am using 802.11g. Note that if I lose a connection, for some reason, and then reconnect, all is OK. It appears to be something to do with turning the wireless network off and on again.

Any suggestions?

I think that I have found the answer to my question above, which I will post as it may help others.

It appears that if I simply come out of standby, turn on the mouse (as I have it powered off when in standby) and leave ithe mouse without using it at all, bluetooth picks it up. The bluetooth led flickers a couple of times fairly shortly after waking up and the mouse can then be used.

If I try and use the mouse before it has registered, e.g. with a left click, bluetooth gets confused, hence I have to use Fn+F5 to power it off and on again.
