T22 shut down problem

#1 Post by rattlehead » Fri Aug 11, 2006 11:45 am

My son's T22 has started shutting down for no particular reason. It just powers off with no warrning. Anyone know what the issue could be here? His is the same model number as mine 2647-8EU

Yes, its happening while plugged in.

Some other things I forgot to mention,... The battery is no longer charging. He said it's at 97% and won't go any higher. It's not a heat issue either. I metioned that to him and he said he though of that and has been trying to keep the laptop as cool as possible. It does it and random times. Sometimes when it's booting up. It will just power off.

Standard operating procedure says to swap the power supply and battery with replacements and see if that helps/works. If that is not possible and if you have a volt meter available, measure the voltage at the end of the plug and see if you have the ~16VDC. Check the yellow power jack on the back of the laptop and see if it is loose and/or damaged. Do the same to the battery terminals inside the battery bay of the laptop. Most likely, from your description of the problem, these things will probably not help :(. It's possible that there is a problem on the motherboard which is causing your intermittent loss of power.

By power supply, I assume you mean the black box on the power cord? So swap out the power cord and battery. I will ask him if that possible.

Yes, sorry I wasn't more explicit in describing it as the AC power adapter. But, like I said, if he is seeing a sudden, total loss of power and not a Windows shutdown, sleep or hiberate mode, then most likely the problem is inside the laptop.

You can also see if running the system on battery power alone (no AC power adapter) and then AC power alone (no battery installed) does the same thing.

I have not been able to talk to my son for the last day, so I'm not sure what the status is on his laptop. I was going through all my parts and found a good battery so I am going to send that to him to see if it's the battery.

I talked to my son yesterday and he said his laptop appears to be running without any problems now. Other then the battery won't hold a charge. I am sending him a good battery, so I guess the problem fixed itself after he took out the battery and reinserted it. Thanks for the help everyone.
