IBM X21 problems
Fn+F7 Problem:
I was able to switch between monitor and LCD with that key combination but now I can't. I installed windows xp home on it before and the key combination works fine. Now when I press the two nothing happens.
What do I need to do?
Video problem:
I installed the latest video driver and now for some reason I get large amount of artifacts when I turn the screen resolution to 1024x768. It gets even worse when I start watching a video. The picture begins to shake and I see a long gray bar on the screen. Its about 1/2 inch thick and 6 inches long.
I have the screen resolution turned down to 800x600 now but still I get some artifacts when I click the mouse during a video playback.
What is wrong with it?

The FN+F7 is handled at the hardware level - it will flip through the modes regardless of the driver installed unless you have something intercepting it (the thinkpad software). Try hitting the sequence before booting into windows (say, at the bios screen). Does it work? It should.

The HotKey drivers and the Presentation Director from IBM/Lenovo should catch this event; although it is, as DMDSoftware said, a hardware switch as the Fn+F7 key combo goes directly to the BIOS and toggles the ports and LCD power. It will cycle through all the states.pcnoob wrote:which specific thinkpad software?

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

remove the ibm software
Try removing some of the ibm software, like Hotkey or Presentation Manager.
