Power Manager Problem

#1 Post by dstraus » Sun Aug 13, 2006 11:03 am

I don't know if this should go here or in the hardware/software forum, but I'll post it here for now. I just formatted my t43 (model 2668-49u) and installed windows using the trick to build a windows install disc from here. Everything works fine except for the power manager. The place on the power scheme page where it should say system settings is blank, as is the battery information.

I hope there's a solution that doesn't involve reinstalling windows again. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the power manager utility and power managment driver, as well as cleaning the registry of power manager keys before reinstalling; neither did anything.

Thanks for your help.

If you look at the following: Software and Device Drivers - ThinkPad T43, T43p, you will see there are several power management related drivers.

You should have the following installed:
(You should probably install the Intel Chipset drivers.)
1. Intel Chipset
2. ACPI Power Management
3. SATA Power management
4. Power Manager

I believe the order above is correct, but check the readme files with each of the drivers first. You can download the drivers and readme files from the link above. Follow the install instructions in the readme files. You can use Software Installer to install the drivers, but you still need to extract them to your hard drive first. You extract them by double-clicking on the .exe file that you download for each driver. But again, check the readme first - just in case the procedure is different.

I tried to uninstall and reinstall each of those (since they were already installed), and no luck. I uninstalled them from the bottom of that list first, and reinstalled from the top (Intel chipset first). There also was nothing in the readme about order to install things.

The odd thing is that the power manager still works correctly in setting the theme and making new themes, just I can't see the settings when one is applied or the battery information.

Perhaps the solution posted in this thread would help you. You need to get someone with a T43 (2668) to help you though.

wow. thank you so much. It was that simple.

I really should have figured it out, but I never had to click the arrow before I reinstalled.

I'm glad you got it working - thanks to dtakias. :D

I don't have Power Manager on my T42, so I was unfamiliar with it's specifics.
