Rescue and Recovery password problem on T43

#1 Post by ergye » Mon Aug 14, 2006 3:06 am

Hi,

I have a problem with my preinstalled Rescue & Recovery system.
I cannot log into it at startup, because I forgot of my last password, however I should restore the factory state, because of some strange (suspiciously caused by a virus) behaviour of my Windows.

I think everyone knows the situation when a dialog comes up on every couple of days (I don't remember how many) with three possibilities (radio buttons), of changing or leaving the old password for Rescue and Recovery system.

I purchased my T43 in last september, and was almost te first step that I did a backup of the rescue and recovery (on CD-s).
Unfortunately if I boot from that the password is also requested.

The dialog (mentioned above) came up several times since purchase date, and I set the password at least two times. I wrote what was that every time, but in this February I set a different one, but I probably forgot to store it.

Is there any possibility to reset this password?

Or, can I get from an official IBM dealer or something like that, a new image of the default, preinstalled part of my notebook on DVD? Of course I can prove that I legally purchased it.

Or maybe I can restore the preinstalled part from my backup?

Regards,

ergye
