Warranties - Questions.

#1 Post by Dead1nside » Mon Aug 14, 2006 12:03 pm

Hi I'm getting a T41p in September that's warranty ends 31-12-06. I see many people listing items for sale in the market place and they say their warranty is extendable through to such and such year. Does this mean there is a limit on how long you can keep extending your warranty?

Thanks in advance for replies.

Your warranty is extendable as long as you have a current warranty.

So in my case, I would have to get a new warranty before 31-12-06? Thanks for clarifying.

not quite sure if you mean extend the warranty while it's still under the original warranty, or add the warranty after the original has expired. if you're talking about the later, you can do that.

When I bought my Thinkpad, the rep told me that the one-year warranty it came with could be extended at any time before expiration, but if I extended it once I couldn't do so again later -in other words the extension wasn't extensible. However, the extension can be for a fairly long period; I went for the 4-year warranty IIRC.

Ach, well I mean that the T41p already I think has a 3-year warranty coming to an end on the final day of this year. He says I can extend it, how can I check this? I'd ideally like to put another 3-year warranty on it.

So in summary: Can an already pre-extended warranty of 3 years bought when the laptop was new. Be further extended?

Thanks for all replies so far.

Sorry to bump, but:

Can an already pre-extended warranty of 3 years bought when the laptop was new. Be further extended?

As I'm looking at buying a 4 year extended warranty... but it'll be useless if I can't extend an already extended warranty.

To my experience, you can only extend a thinkpad warranty just once, up to 5 years from original purchase date of the tp but as with anything, there are caveats for this. Certain US states cannot do this and so forth.

My T30's warranty was a "special bid contract" and cannot be extended.

It sounds like these warranties are like options when you buy a new car.

If so, why do they sell like warranty extender packs, completely serperately instead of asking at purchase time if a warranty is needed?

The T30 I have was originally purchased by a large corporation so they probably worked out some kind of "bulk" deal with IBM for numerous laptops and most likely other computer stuff. They knew the laptops would be replaced before the three year warranty deal ran out, so that may have been part of the deal.

Can anyone else confirm that infact one cannot buy an extended warranty after already purchasing one?

Might be easier to call Lenovo and talk to a sale or tech rep.

because you can add the "option" at any time within the initial one-year warranty period, not just at the time of purchase. You just can't do it more than once.

Warranty extension is also one of the options offered at the time of purchase when you configure a machine - I don't know about the preconfigured ones.
