A colleague of mine is looking to buy a laptop. I tried to force a Thinkpad on him, but he wants a 17" widescreen, and not to spend $2000. The Satellite P105-26024 seems to be a good fit, but wasn't sure of their reliability. I have heard some good things- Anyone with personal experience? $999 for a Core-Duo and 1GIG of Ram doesn't seem bad.

Toshiba has been ok for me, with the exception of the Tecra series....though that was more of an IT problem than a Toshiba problem.
You might want to give this guy a heads up that he is looking at a laptop that weighs OVER 7.1lbs!! If they are going to be carrying it around, they might want to go check it out in person first.

I've used a bunch of Tecras in the past though the newest I've used was a Tecra 8000. My experience has been pretty good and I've never had any trouble but my experiences go back to the 90s when if you dropped a Toshiba, you wanted to check your foot for dammage before checking the computer.
Just make sure this person plans to get a good workout when carrying the unit. 17" widescreen and 7+ lb carry weight is alot of computer to deal with.

Sounds good enough, thanks guys. This fellow I work worth can't be any taller than 5' 2", 120lbs. He insisted that he wouldn't mind a 20" screen if they made them. He saw the weight, and despite my efforts, still thinks the 7 pounder won't be a hassle.
I look forward to buying it from him when his little arms grow tired.
