External Slim DVD burner--good experience with Samsung drive

#1 Post by bigtiger » Mon Aug 14, 2006 4:10 pm

I just received the Samsung DVD drive. I put it in an external enclosure purchased from centrix-intl recommended by many here. I have to say I have very good experience with it.

I initialy plan to purchase a NEC 6750. But it has been out of stock for quite long. I finally bought this Samsung SN-082D retail version for $45. The initial firmware is ss00. When I tried to burn my cr*ppy Playo (yes, I still have two spindles of cheap media), three toasters.

I then downloaded the latest ss02 firmware. I have to say now it works flawlessly. I burned two Playo with no toasters.

This drive is not as good as the former BenQ 1620 desktop version that I had. It is kind of slow and I have a feeling bad compatibility with some cheap media. But it is pretty quiet and just does the job. I am glad I got rid of my BenQ 1620. Now I can carry this slim drive around.

I share my experience for those who would like to try Samsung Drive. So please rest assured, Samsung is not that bad compared to NEC.
currently own X61S, T42, X31, Macbook Pro Unibody i5
