Wireless problem on z60m

#1 Post by ejr » Mon Aug 14, 2006 5:02 pm

I bought my wife a z60m a few months ago. Alas, the wireless no longer works. When checking I'm told the 'radio button' is turned off and that I should turn it back on in the bios. However, when i looked in the bios it was on, so I turned it off, rebooted, then rebooted again into the bios to turn the radio button back on. This because I thought it might have been 'stuck' and this would fix it.

No, it didn't. Is the wireless, intel, on a discrete card so I could have lenovo send me the card to do this?

Have you checked on the wireless radio switch? It's on the front of the laptop and somewhat lower left when facing the laptop.

Also, the wireless card is a mini-PCI type so it's replaceable without having to have the whole systemboard replaced.

Ay!!!! How stupid of me! I never saw that button. My granddaughter must have switched it off, too.

To tell the truth, once I set the computer up for my wife I never paid much attention to it, and never bothered to study the outside of it very much. I had looked for that radio button after seeing the message, but on back and on the sides. Not on the front!

Thank you very much for the prompt reply and assistance.

Speaking of the wireless on that z60m, it is inferior to that on a sony laptop that I gave to my granddaughter. Is there any way of improving this? Or is it possible to put a better card than the intel inside?

What model # is your Z-60m? Mine has the Intel PRO Wireless 2915ABG whereas some models has the Intel PRO Wireless 2200BG and then some have the ThinkPad 11a/b/g (atheros?) card.
