t21 + xp + Svideo out problem

#1 Post by andydis » Fri Aug 18, 2006 8:20 pm

Hello people,

i am a IT manager and have 7 years experience in IT but this is driving me mad.
I have an old t21 , i have installed XP pro sp2 on it, updated all drivers from IBM but i cannot get any SVIDEO OUT from the laptop, nothing at all appears on ANY SCREENS even at bootup.

heres what i have tried:-
1) powerstrip
2) same svideo cable in another laptop - worked fine.
3) different screens

heres what ive heard reading other forums:-

1) the t21 doesnt support svideo out???
2) t21 supports svideo out if you use a home made cable and "short 2 pins out"

Please shed some light on this as its driving me insane.

Regards,

Andy

Funny that you mention this. I just ran into this issue for the first time trying to display a Powerpoint Presentation at a meeting last week, but haven't had a chance to look into it.

I am curious to get an answer to this as well.

Using the Search link at the top of the page and specifying "tv-out" as the only term and limiting the search to the T2x/T3x conference, this is what I found:

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=26901

Changing the search term to "s-video" and you will find (among others), this thread:

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=17928

Basically it looks like you have to re-boot the laptop WITH the cable connected AND the TV on (it least if I read this correctly while quickly scanning all of the posts).

Search is your friend :)

I'll have to try the rebooting thing again, at home, but it didn't work at the meeting.

Try using the Presentation Director software, if you haven't already. I also had trouble getting s-video to work until I installed this software. It provides quick switching between display modes, and also supports 640x480 tv-out, which is the only non-panning tv-out mode.
