IBM: T43 2668-CTO Please Help A N00b..!

#1 Post by PolyGoniX » Sat Aug 19, 2006 10:32 am

hi all
plz, im experiencing that error 1802 for a week, and i can't see the light at the end of tunnel....
ive tried every patch/code/asm code i could pat my hands on but nothing worked 4me.

im reading about people with t42/t41/t30 etc. that this patch did the job for them and im just jalleous.

ive tried to hack my bios, to change my subsystem id of my wlan card via xp & linux, no-1802.com and some weird c scripts, none of them worked, the problem of mine is also apply's to ALL recent tp's such as t43/p z60, x40 and so.
please, if anyone of those brilliant IT pro's/Computer Wiz here can help me - i'll be more then appreciated him, i can share aLOT of stuff with him. my tp is OPEN because i need to unplug my wlan card every post/boot that situation is VERY inconviniente.

please 4give me about my lame english - not my primary language.
thanks in advance for all helpers.

please post your pc configuration

What did you do to your thinkpad? Did you put a non-ibm wireless card in it. If you did why don't you return it and just get an ibm one. IF it is the original card try reseating it and rebooting. What have you done to change the configuration of your laptop recently(since you have been having this problem)

hi semaj,
my computer configuration:
intel pentium-m @ 1.86Ghz
1.0Gb DDR2 @ 533Mhz PC-4200
120GB HD Fujitsu-siemens SATA
DVDRW Multi-Burner (IBM)
Ati X300 256MB PCI-X @ x16
unused mini-pci slot

i got the card through a friend of mine (he's a local reseller)
he cost me like 25$ and i can't refund it.

i just installed it into miniPCI slot and got that annoying messege "unauthorized blah blah" during post.

the only difference between my nic and "ibm" nic is ONE digit at the subsystem vendor id. (IBM/FRU is: 2712, mine is: 2702) becide of that - THE SAME CARD

i haven't made major changes inside my bios, and even if so - i know how to mess with it.
there are 3 main methods to solve that problem:

1. hexedit system bios to avoid whitelist checking.
2. hexedit minipci adapter so he's deviceID will match whitelist criteria.
3. applying sort of a patch (no-1802.com etc.)

ive tried methods 1+3 - didn't work.
ive tried method 2 under ubunto, knoppix & suse - didn't manage to apply that workaround due to some mysterious errors (probablly of my lack of knowledge about *.nix)
apparently - the only enviroment suitable for minipci eeprom flashing is linux/unix and it can't be done otherwise.

i just left to hope that a talented assembly programmer is reading my thread and will pay those 10 minutes to create a proper patch for my kind of recent tp's.
