T23 Purchase question

#1 Post by TPadguy » Sat Aug 19, 2006 4:15 pm

Hi,

I have a question. I am debating between purchasing a T40 notebook with the great reputation and now someone has offered a T23 with internal wireless, SXGA+ screen 80gb hard drive, 256mb RAM for a pretty good price....I have heard that these are also very nice but not sure if it pays to invest in that old a processor and technology.....Even though it is a 1.2ghz it is still a P3....

I realize the opinions may be biased here but I would like to see what you think....The SXGA screen on a t23 is very tempting since most t40s I see only have xga....

Any thoughts?

thanks....

It really depends on what your needs are. What prices are you looking at? For me, anything with a 500MHz processor (Celeron or PIII doesn't matter) or faster and 256MB of RAM or more is good enough. So, if one unit has SXGA+ whereas the other only has XGA, I would definitely get the former. The T23 has USB1.1 ports, but one can easily get a USB2 PC card (and I already have one).

Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)

The pricing on the T23 is $400....The T40s I have looked at are in the mid $500s but with xga.....

I need something to use in the field for business that is pretty portable aside from my T43, which is more of my higher end office machine....

USB 2.0 would be nice, though without the card.....thanks

If you decide to pass on the T23 and it is in fact SXGA+, I think I might be interested... see my other thread :) you have perfect timing. Let me know.
