Omega Drivers and Powerplay

#1 Post by ParzanM » Mon Aug 21, 2006 9:48 am

Will omega drivers work with powerplay? I have read that some people are having problems with getting powerplay to work with the omega drivers.

Also is there a point of me getting omega drivers for my 7500 mobility(yes it has powerplay :D ). will I see a significant preformance increase?

Thanks
Parzan

I have a Radeon 7500 in my ThinkPad as well. I tried the Omega drivers, but I did not see any performance increase in World of Warcraft, or any other games I play.

Not sure if Powerplay worked or not. Switched back to IBM drivers so I can't check now. I don't think my battery life was any worse though.

If you want to try the Omega Drivers, give it a shot. They should work fine. If they cause problems, you can always switch back to the IBM driver.

If it didnt really increase performance ill just stay with my current drivers since i dont have a problem with them.

I pretty much have the same config as you. how is the 9cell in battery life.....avg usage?? lowest power settings?

OFFTOPIC: does xga give more battery life over high res screens?

Today I just received my laptop with the long fan installed, hopefully it won't overheat again :?

Should I open my machine and apply Arctic Silver 5 to reduce the GPU temp (which apparently seems to rise above 90° C degress even with the new fan)

Also, I've tried the Omega drivers with no previous video driver installed (No Lenovo), but my screen flickers a lot, so I had to change to the original driver.

Also, since I'm using a fresh (unbranded) Windows XP SP2 version, what is Powerplay??

Just a basic overview. Im sure many people on the forums can provide a more in depth look at this..

Powerplay works when you are on battery power. It is a power managment software. It lowers power to your graphics to increase battery life. If your laptop is not using graphic intense programs it will lower your graphics power to a minimum. If you start playing a game/ graphics intense program, PowerPlay will increase power to your gpu so you can play the game/use the program. Just as your cpu is clocked lower to save power when its not needed, PowerPlay works for the GPU in the same way.

Where is Powerplay included?
I run my machine using a clean install of XP SP2 Lite Version without the service partition.
