I had a bunch of questions about PC2700, but instead I bought 512MB from Brent Presley, much easier on everyone.

As of 8/21/06 at 5:30pm PDT, those two 512MB modules you referenced in your post are selling for the same price ($79.99), so I'm not sure if this is what you are referring to when you said "cheaper and more available". As far as I can tell, the relevent specs between them are the same. Both are rated at the same clock speed (PC2700), the same CAS latency (CL2.5), voltages, etc. Why are there two different modules with the same specs? Don't know other than it may be a marketing ploy designed to recommend a specific module for different manufacturers. From a test standpoint (my background) one could say that it is possible that Crucial performs different test sequences based upon manufacturer's requests and are therefore "qualified" for use in those systems. Since Crucial has said in the CT6464X335 page that returns "may be subject to a 20% restocking fee" and that those two modules are the same price, I would go with the CT526443 version if you want to stay with Crucial modules.
If you can find PC2700 CL2.5 modules elsewhere for less and as long as there is some sort of guarantee that the module(s) can be returned for a refund if they don't work in your system, then you should be safe in ordering them.
edit: Hmm... you seemed to have edited your original post during the time I was composing my response.... In that case, never mind

Sorry Ray-I did edit the post. It was way easier to just buy the memory from Brent.
I had planned on buying the memory at newegg.com, which is always cheaper than the Crucial website. However, they didn't carry the memory I needed so I was wondering if there was some other PC2700 memory that newegg was selling for about $20 less than on the Crucial website that I could use.
Sorry to make you use up valuable brain cells by responding to my post. Since the T30 only "officially" supports 1G total system memory, when it seems clear that it can use 2G of RAM, but with two RAM slots and no manufacturer tested 1G modules, there is some gray area on what memory will work. Guess you would have to buy it and try it at the cost of a restocking fee.
I'd bet there is a fair amount of the more "plain Jane" PC2700 memory, like Crucial, that would work. I know the Crucial memory I have in my Intel D875PBZ desktop rig will work in a bunch of other motherboards.
