feeler: Thinkpad X21

#1 Post by ansatzjp » Wed Aug 23, 2006 12:03 am

I'm wondering how much I can get by selling this one.

IBM Thinkpad X21 Laptop
- Intel Pentium PIII 700
- 20 GB Hard Drive
- 256 MB RAM
- 12.1" XGA
- 10/100 Mini PCI Ethernet
- PCMCIA wireless ethernet card
- Compact Flash slot
- 2 USB Port
- 1 PCMCIA slot
- Windows 2000 installed
- AC Adapter
- Battery
- Thai keyboard (same as US one)

Has pink lcd on start-up (CCFL backlight is weak), but it disappears quickly.

thanks for any input.

Does it have a Win 2000 COA sticker? That would add to the value a little.

It has Windows 2000 Certificate of Authenticity in the bottom. How much value would it add to the machine?

You're probably on the low side of the $150-200 range, but only because of the pinkish LCD. That is generally a sign that the CCFL is going to go within a year or so...depending on usage. Changing a CCFL is very hard and most are not willing to partake in that type of surgery. Though, there are some that feel this job is an easy one for them.

Personally, I'd be willing to spend up to $225 for an immaculate X21, just because of the portability of the X series, whereas a T series with the same specs, I'd only go up to $175.

If the battery lasts for over 2 hours, then I would say $200 max. Prices are plummeting, so you should try to sell it ASAP.

I decided to use this Thinkpad to trade-up for a new sony laptop ($ 750ish). I don't particularly like sony laptop, but they will give me $ 300 for this x21. =)

But your still stuck with a Sony. talk to Brainpicker, he's got a bunch of great ThinkPads for sale, including some nice X41s with very good specs.
