HIbernation Errors when Outlook is open
Trying to figure out a solution other than quitting OUtlook.
Sometimes my X41 will fail to hibernate, going through the motions until the screen goes dark, then the numlock and capslock LEDs will flash (like when booting) and the Windows desktop will just reappear. When it does this, there is an icon in the system tray that says insufficient resources.
I have 1.5GB of RAM, Windows XP Pro SP2 and Office 2003 with all updates, and only Outlook is running, so I can't be running out of memory. Even with a dozen other applications open it will always hibernate successfully, and sometimes will with Outlook open as well.
This is an occasional problem, perhaps 50% of the time, and only when Outlook is open.
Any ideas?

Hibernation isn't supported with applications currently accessing the internet (Web Browser, Email client, IM, etc.). There's no clean way to prevent problems. Some by nature of their application can resolve better than others. All are risky and can result in dataloss.
It's essentially the same thing as pulling the power on an application while it's writing data... except in this case, rather than go to the disk, it's going over the network. If you interupt at odd times, strange things can happen.

I have Outlook set to "Offline" mode, so it should only be accessing the internet when I tell it to, not all the time.

One more factor that makes me think there is something wrong is that it didn't always do this. This behavior only started last week.

Bottom line is that apps may act strange after using hibernation. It's not intended for that purpose, it's just to be a no-power alternative to shutting down and rebooting.
It's not a bug, it's the app trying to compensate for having the power shut off while it's working. What you are seeing is normal behavior. I'd be more concerned why you didn't see this before.

I've been using hibernation since Windows 2000 was released, and it has always worked well until now. I think this is an Outlook problem, not a hibernation problem.

Just deleted my hibernation file and recreated it, and now it seams to be working fine. Six successful hibernations in a row!
Just go into power and disable hibernation. I then set PerfectDisk to offline defrag, rebooted, did a full online defrag, and then in power re-enabled hibernation.
